"This is a red hot load, you must pick it up ASAP", then you get to the shipper and it's not even ready
Or you get to the Consignee and they aren't even expecting it till the next day
Or they don't even know it was shipped at all.
"they said it would ship out next week.
Took a load from a tool shop last week and while going for the pickup got a call from dispatch advising I had to wear boots at the shipper. When I asked what kind of boots I was told "Don't know, but some kind of boots". I went to the pickup bootless. When I got there the fork lift driver (and nearly everyone else) was wearing tennis shoes. DUH!

How about "you need to stay there until you get a load" as your sitting in the middle of no where a couple hundred miles from civilization. lol

Stupid things drivers believe?
1. There's no freight out of Florida
2. There's no freight out of California
3. There's no freight out of Jersey,
4. If there is any loads out of the above areas, it's all cheap rates.
5. My carrier doesn't do much liftgate or blanket work, so I don't need them.
Oh, and one of my favorites:
5. We need to get back to the "freight lanes" (aka OH, IN, IL, or anywhere else in the midwest) to get a good load.

My new Co driver will be at orientation.
Don't worry, I called and they will be open on Saturday, and the directions are correct. Get to the delivery and something just doesn't seem right, starting with the big faded For Sale sign on the property, down to every window in the place being broken.
Checked at nearby businesses and found out that it wasn't just a mistake and the company had moved, they had gone out of business about 7 months earlier.
Never did get a straight answer on who that dispatcher was talking to..LOL He disappeared right after that.
There was something about the shipper wanting us to bring it back to them for free in both directions because they had gotten scammed (???). We ended up leaving it on a dock that Monday morning, and we did get paid for the load. Wish I could have learned more about what really happened

1. Yeah, the previous driver faxed the paperwork to the broker and everything's been taken care of...you're good to go!

Actually, there has been a time when that was true. Last December, there were straight truck loads being booked by carriers at the O/O base rate ($1.20). Carrier rates for their own shippers dropped from about 2.40-2.50, incl. fsc, down to about $1.50, incl. fsc, just trying to book the load. "Partnered" loads went for LESS than 1.20, more often than you might think. It was a bidding war for what freight was still moving.
Your dispatcher may have been telling you the truth. Novel, huh?
