Speed cameras coming to Illinois work zones.

Why is it ridiculous to expect people to obey the law? The speed limits are clearly marked. Anytime there are speed enforcement cameras in use, there is clear and abundant warning of same. I am constantly passed, in work zones, by speeding vehicles, in complete disregard of clearly posted speed limit signs. They have electronic signs and metal signs with the posted reduced limit. They also have signs advising of increased penalties for speeding in the work zones. Who's fault IS it when a motorist gets a ticket for intentionally disobeying the law?

If you're going to use a ridiculous argument, why not say, "Would your position be the same if they wanted you to go in reverse?" LOL... OMG!!...

Sorry, but it is just as simple as don't speed.

The question was designed to find out whether their position was a matter of principle and unchanging or some shade of gray or matter of degree.

I think we all have times we miss a sign, there are loweted limits but the construction doesnt start for two more miles, there is construction speed limits they simply never took down. Just because a person gets a ticket doesnt mean they are blatantly ignoring the limit. I haven't had a ticket in over twenty years but that could change tomorrow without intentionally speeding.

It depends on if the law itself is ridiculous. If it is, then expecting people to obey it is ridiculous. Having ridiculous laws breeds contempt for the law.

That's why I asked "What if the speed limit were 10 mph in work zones," to take it to a ridiculous degree to see if their position remained the same.

AMonger, the ten mph was taken as a joke (as I think you meant it).

Joke? No, it wasn't a joke. What if the speed limit were actually set at 10 mph? Would you obey it and insist others do the same, or would you conclude it was too ridiculous to obey? If so, what about 20 mph? 30? 40? Where's the line and why?

I drive try my best to not drive more than 5mph over ANY posted limit.
You can drive whatever you wish to drive.
My point is, how can you blame anybody but yourself, if you are ticketed for INTENTIONALLY violating the law?
Would you go the wrong way on a one way street, just because it was faster than going the legal route?
Cut through the median because you don't want to go to the next exit, to go back to the exit you missed?

Xiggi, there is a difference between missing the sign, and IGNORING the sign, because YOU feel it is a ridiculous speed.

Based on that, then, you would obey an interstate work zone speed limit of 10 mph? In spite of it being ridiculous?

According to the CDC site, in 2008, there were 716 FATALITIES in work zones. Dropped to 667 in 2009.
The speed limit (any speed zone) is set for safety reasons- not simply to irritate drivers, nor to entrap you for revenue.
So, they should set the speed limit to the speed 85 percent of the motorist decide to drive?
Do you honestly think these same 85% would then obey the "new", increased speed limit?! Of course they wouldn't.
