Speed cameras coming to Illinois work zones.

This was sent to me by my brother an IL. resident.

Illinois will begin using photo radar in freeway work zones
starting in July.

Beginning in July the State of Illinois will use speed cameras in areas
designated as Work Zones' on major freeways. Anyone caught by
these devices will be mailed a $375.00 ticket for the FIRST offense,
but the SECOND offense will cost $ 1000.00 and comes with a 90-Day
suspension.

Drivers will also receive demerit points against their license, which
allows insurance companies to raise their rates.

This represents the harshest penalty structure yet for a city or state
using PHOTO enforcements. The State will begin with FIVE camera vans
issuing tickets in work zones with speed limits lowered to 45 MPH.

Photographs of both the Driver's face and License plate are taken.

Pass this on to everyone you know.

Nice! More for the money as if the tolls aren't enough.

I just remember a couple years ago Ill. made a push like this....going thru Chicago was a mess sometimes.....some would actually slowdown and others just did the normal 65-70 in a 55 zone anyhows...on 294....

Date of the announcement is 2009. They've had those cameras in place for years now.

It gets more difficult when there's mile after mile of barricades or cones, no one working, and no apparent legitimate reason for the slowdown except to keep barricade manufacturers in business. And then sometimes the reduced limit is reduces father than necessary. Every mile that goes by is worse than the last.

There comes a point where I've been a good boy long enough, then I've had all I can standsk, and I can't standsk no more.

Your patience will improve once they start sending out the tickets.

No change is taking place. The policy that was posted has been in place for years. Everybody speeds through the work zones regardless. If the chances of getting caught were high, people would be getting caught, and it wouldn't be happening.

I have a thought about work zones and school zones ....

"Any man that speeds through them should have his testicles nailed to a log with a rusty nail, and that log thrown off a cliff. "

(If you happen to be of the female percuasion .. substitute something else!)

Many of the states now seem to know that when there is no one there the lower speeds are not needed, and have those flashing signs saying, "Work zone, 45 mph when flashing" .. that seems to make things a lot easier.

And some, like Ohio, maintain two lanes by using the shoulder, others fine you for using it .... seems someone one could come up with the "best" way ...

I think there's more warning than actual getting caught, anyway. It does happen, but it seems the actually only have a couple of "camera vans" to cover all of the work zones. Instead of cameras, they seem to go in for those signs that tell you "your speed".

The warning is certainly old, I remember seeing it a couple of years back.

Michigan has about the stupidest work zones.......example the WZ is 6 miles long....signs read " speed 60 mph, 45 MPH when workers present" How the heck ya supposed to know when they are working?

When you drive past them and see them.

Barricades, barrels, cones and flashing lights, people milling about the road in tennis ball t-shirts. Does Ray La Hood know about this stuff? It's very distracting.

What I mean is....I was into a stretch on a Sat. morning....no workers for the first couple miles....Then a local LEO was nailing drivers...why?.....There were 2 engineer type guys doing an inspection of the work just ahead......talk about money grab....

I agree. Too many workers are getting injured or killed. Add to the speeding someone's probably texting or what have ya. I like that they're going to enforce it better.
