Sorry turtle my comments were not directed to you nor was I asking for your opinion. I expected lawrence to take note of the issue and see what changes can be made.
I didn't see that you directed it towards anyone in particular, and since it was posted in a public forum, it should come as no surprise that you could get responses from just about anybody. If you were directing it at Lawrence, and wanted only a response from him, then you should have PMed him directly. Are you not aware of things like this?
That was part of the purpose for my complaint, to get more than just superficial comment or two about what mods do and don't do, it was about having one of you acually be concern about the issue s just step up and make the post readable.
Stepping up and making THE post readable is one thing, and I and others have done that very thing. But it's always done in a manner that shows the poster how to do it properly, so that we don't have to become full time editors for the forum. Becoming full time editors to correct various and sundry problems with a wide variety of posts is not the job of a moderator nor is it something we are prepared to do. To do that, every single post would have to be posted and auto-unapproved, invisible to the members, and then the moderators would read over the posts, make all the necessary edits, and approve them for posting where everyone can see them. Some sites may do that, but this ain't one of them.
More often edits happen because of the code of conduct and that is understandable but it seems that if one is to be concerned to enforce the coc then it makes sense that the usability of the threads and posts should be of an equal concern.
It makes no sense at all, since "usability of the threads" isn't really in the CoC. The only usability is how much effort people choose to put into their posts. If someone wants to post something that is unusable or unintelligible, that's up to them. If Amonger wants to annoy users with stray HTML that doesn't affect the rendering of the page, well, there's nothing in the CoC about not being annoying (other than SPAM). We have people here to type in one-word sentences, or sentences that never begin or end, and in screaming headline sentences, none of which are very usable to the community. The community will let those people know when enough is enough. Speak up, directly to the person who annoys you.
With the complaints of censorship by any editing happening from many who are members and former members, this is an entirely different issue and I find the logic used to support not doing it as illogical as it can get.
Not doing what? The editing or the complaints? Huh?
"but again it is a simple fix and it seems no one cares enough about it, so I can assume that it isn't important enough to address to improve the site"
No, Greg, it's not a simple fix. I've gone through one of his posts (state power, human rights) just to see how long it takes, and it takes quite a lot of time, since a simple search and replace doesn't work on more than half the code, because a lot of it splits words before and after quotes and apostrophes and other punctuation. You have to pretty much completely proofread the entire thing and make a lot of tedious edits, and that's
after the search and replace. Otherwise, it's search and hand replace, which takes quite a while, too, far more time that I, you or anyone else is likely to want to put into someone else's post.
