I can't get onto the fedex forum so i post it here. The simple solution to all of the aggravation is for the company to terminate the individual that is responsible for all of the detrimental changes. In any other business it would have been done long ago.
WHO is responsible

Is my calculator goofy, or was there 27 cents difference in pay plans for Jim's last $4766 of revenue ?

Yup. $800 total. Sign a contract, give $200 and you get a driver name and number.

Sounds like an ok plan. They should raise your rates since they no longer have a recruiting department. Sounds like a win-win for both sides.

Well, they are offering a $600 bonus if we place a new team. That's the way it works here. Invest $1600 in 2 new drivers, get a $600 return. /sarc.

Why is the world coming to an end just because FedEx is going to a pay system that closely mirrors one of, if not, their closest competitor ?

Hasn't Panther been flat rate for a long time ?
They seem to be doing fine.
Why ?

I've asked but don't really get good answers.
How different are the two plans ?
How about someone that has figured out what their last few runs will pay on flat rate put out 4 or 5 differant examples so a Panther guy can put out some comparative pay ?
Mix it up. Reasonable dh, ridiculous dh, short /long.
And what does Panther pay for minis ?
I guess to someone that may lose $$$ every week, and otherwise has been happy at FedEx, they may not care what the Cat pays.

I'm curious as to how out of line with the market the new FedEx plan is.

The reason you have difficulty comparing to the Cat is there are many different contracts. What someone new gets is likely different than someone that has been there for awhile. There is also a difference with government loads and that type of thing. Most paying .30 more per mile.
FSC same thing. Some are structured and some are based on the load.
There has been talk about consolidating some of the contracts but since I haven't seen one, I can't comment one way or the other.
DH is another area. Typically on a straight it is .40 cents however many loads will pay out better depending on distance, type of load, and other trucks in the area.
The same scenario mentioned, can happen at Panther/probably other carriers, where a 50 mile load might pay $1000. It happens but would be a disservice for someone to post that and act like it happens with any frequency. If it did, everyone would be at that carrier.
At the end of the day, it is revenue and what it costs to bring that number in. At least on the positive side, When comparing carrier rates, neither one is promoting 1.12 a mile or 1.05 and act like it is a great deal.
A lot more goes into looking at a carriers performance than just rates. I am mindful that when you are in the higher tier rate wise and that company has trucks running cheaper than you, don't think for a minute they don't look at their financial picture before they look at your board position.
Many factors to look at. Most importantly," watch what they do, not what they say".

Load #2 was 1.44 on old plan on new with 60.00 less in revenue would be roughly 1.38/39 and load #3 on old plan was 1.48 and on new plan with 40.00 more in revenue would be roughly 1.52/53

Averaging just those 2 loads old is 1.46 all miles and new is 1.45 all miles. if all loads are like that then I would have to do some thinking. That's to low of an all miles rate on an average.
