Why is the world coming to an end just because FedEx is going to a pay system that closely mirrors one of, if not, their closest competitor ?
Hasn't Panther been flat rate for a long time ?
They seem to be doing fine.

How different are the two plans ?
How about someone that has figured out what their last few runs will pay on flat rate put out 4 or 5 differant examples so a Panther guy can put out some comparative pay ?
Mix it up. Reasonable dh, ridiculous dh, short /long.
And what does Panther pay for minis ?
I guess to someone that may lose $$$ every week, and otherwise has been happy at FedEx, they may not care what the Cat pays.

The reason you have difficulty comparing to the Cat is there are many different contracts. What someone new gets is likely different than someone that has been there for awhile. There is also a difference with government loads and that type of thing. Most paying .30 more per mile.
FSC same thing. Some are structured and some are based on the load.
There has been talk about consolidating some of the contracts but since I haven't seen one, I can't comment one way or the other.
DH is another area. Typically on a straight it is .40 cents however many loads will pay out better depending on distance, type of load, and other trucks in the area.
The same scenario mentioned, can happen at Panther/probably other carriers, where a 50 mile load might pay $1000. It happens but would be a disservice for someone to post that and act like it happens with any frequency. If it did, everyone would be at that carrier.
At the end of the day, it is revenue and what it costs to bring that number in. At least on the positive side, When comparing carrier rates, neither one is promoting 1.12 a mile or 1.05 and act like it is a great deal.
A lot more goes into looking at a carriers performance than just rates. I am mindful that when you are in the higher tier rate wise and that company has trucks running cheaper than you, don't think for a minute they don't look at their financial picture before they look at your board position.
Many factors to look at. Most importantly," watch what they do, not what they say".
