Should driver film or record all encounters with shippers and receivers?

Customers make mistakes too, it happens in this business. Maybe they were told the wrong info?

I find the whole idea of filming the shipper creepy! Who does that? If you can't work it out with your customer over the phone and email like normal people chances are they are not worth working with.

Oh, I dunno...many loads, at least in big trucks, are photographed before they leave for documentation purposes. So what's the difference? Why have only one record of events?

It wasnt my orignal post. that was how blizzard started the thread and then what realy cracked me up was the thought that ovm thought he did such a good job but i personaly I dont feel that he knows what time it is anyplace in the whole fraken world. I was just tring to be nice and wanted to see who else caught that without saying names.to me it seems like some posters are just so used to kissing others behinds that they just kiss before the read.hows that for pie in your eye

I did not miss that sir.....as that was NOT the main issue at hand......The OP's question/issue was pretty clear....should we video/record when we are at shippers or receivers...period

Your response #15 did not even address the question....Sir.....

so to this point you've got 2 posts in this thread..one useless and the other derogatory toward me and towards "some" butt kissing members......have a good day...

BTW...DaveKC also had no mention of time zone and Blizz kissed his butt as well...but you failed to mention Dave at all..so I guess he doesn't know where "in the frakin world" he is either...so yeah you made it personal....

I made a mistake. I typed that whole thing half asleep. Now I know people have said to me on here before that I am as good as steven king, but sometimes I make typographical errors. I'm too lazy to edit myself. But to assume that something like that wasn't a simple mistake lol. It was deliver at 7 am eastern - my driver was there at 5 am eastern and ended up delivering at 10 am eastern which was 7 am pacific time. Where is the problem? Now I can't tell time! lol I guess I better get into anothe rline of business.

I just corrected it again. I can't type worth a sheet!

I hate when you show up and they say you were supposed to be here last night, then I show them the sheet with the names, Times etc and they sulk away unable to bother me anymore !!!!

As I said and as pearlpro's example shows, keeping a run journal can be very powerful.

I think this is apples and oranges IMO. Taking a picture of a product to show it's condition prior to shipping is different then filiming an encounter with an individual.

A shipper or consignee can be a pain in the rear for sure (some are great to work with let's not forget that). They can mistreat drivers, incorrectly load freight, damage our equipment...the list goes on.

But we are here to provide a service and get paid to do so. Part of the services we provide is "customer service". Just my .02, but I don't use carriers that would resort to do such things as it is considered unprofessional IMHO. If you can't trust your dispatch to correctly deal with these issues, afterall this is what they are paid to do then perhaps you should find another company to work with. As a company if I cannot trust a carrier or my driver to provide customer service and healthy interaction with the people on the docks, then I choose not to use thier services.

There is no right or wrong answer here, just a matter of personal opinion. If I took a poll of the company owners on EO knowing most of them, I would think they would prefer for this not to happen with any of thier customers as well.

Loads are a different situation. We photograph most loads that leave our docks. As far as verifying customer arrivals, I love the qualcomm. It takes the whole he said, she said out of the equation.

Even worse?

Are you sure that you had a driver in that part of the continent?

Try pulling out any type of camera in a high security facility like a port, prison, or nuke plant and let us know how that works out.

Try this instead it works for me.
Put your time in and out on all paper work dont waste time asking negotiating just do it I use my own BOL for EVERYTHING I dont leave unless every thing is signed with local times and dates. I dont even pickup unless I have shippers paperwork or rate agreements clearly showing pick and drop times. You can also note your time on your log sheet and ask somone to sign you on location use the old "its company policy". Remember the more paperwork you have the easier it is to get paid especialy if you are the carrier or owner opperator I am both the carrier and an owner opperator. Work smarter
