I have learned that most families have skeletons in the closet and booze usually brings it out sooner or later...a snide remark here a quip there and the battles on...and Viola Adults argue and spoil Christmas for the kids...hence besides a glass of wine to toast at dinner no booze is available at my family get togethers.
What are your thoughts?

Should booze be served or no?

My family will fight booze or not. My liberal brother will be there!! I am going to insure that I am always in the other room!! He is way out there, beyond any kind of normal. He just stays in his basement, records music that no one ever hears and complains about how bad things are. Of course, his house is paid for, he owes not one penny to anyone and has money in the bank, but things are horrible. He is the one that "leached" off of us for years, living in tax assisted housing, Medicade ranger, etc etc.

He don't drink so it won't matter. He can just smoke his wacky tabbacky and sulk outside. The rest of us can have a few and enjoy life!!

NOW, that might be a better question in our house. At least as long as my brother and his family are there. Strange bunch.

Don't blame me!! I take no responsibility for him!! His stupidity started when he was still a kid, when I was in the army. He knocked up a girl, did not finish high school, claims his life was ruined by atomic bombs and blames Bush and Cheney for all of that. I think he needs a Dr. myself, there is something wrong with that guy. Liberal is one thing, that is just an illness that can be cured, he is really crazy!!

Ban what ever you want it's your home if your family can't drink without getting drunk enough to fight that is your problem. When i was a kid our table was 110 feet long (several put end to end) plenty of beer not 1 fight that i can remember.

If you are dumb enough to drink booze on any other day of the year, you should be allowed to do it on Christmas. You are not however going to do it in my house, nor will I visit any house where I know it will be served.
Not a "Prude" just prudent.

Booze and Christmas go together like Mom and a stripper pole, wherever you find one the other is not far away.

I think also think it depends on the family. I prefer to not have any alcohol in our house on Christmas Eve or Christmas day. I have to many memories of the drunken fights, passing out, snoring, in other words the evening and day you looked forward to for a very long time the people who could not be responsible with alcohol caused ugly scenes. The next day then all was forgotten by them and you still were left with a bitter taste in your mouth.

Many people can drink reasonable amounts with no problem at all. There is also many proven health benefits to a glass of wine each day. To call people who enjoy a drink now and then "dumb' is pretty far out there.

My doctor suggested I drink a little beer about once a month to flush my kidneys because my meds are filtered through my kidneys and it get the junk from the medicine out. Believe it or not a few beers can flush your kidneys and whole urinary tract out better and faster than water. Just be sure to follow the beer up with a couple of glasses of water so you don't get dehydrated. I grab me a sixer on the first of the month and that's the only time I drink. I actually hate it, but I noticed it makes me feel alot better over the rest of the month.

Now back on topic. I wouldn't drink on Christmas. Mainly for personal reasons. Most of my family doesn't drink. The few that do don't drinl enough beer to get drunk. I know plenty of people that drink on every day that end in y expect Christmas and Easter.

I stopped drinking 15 years ago, and nobody drinks at house anymore, so no booze here for Christmas

Interesting question.... I grew up with drunken fights and swore I wouldn't live like that.
I had no alcohol at my wedding because of a few family members that didn't know when to say when. I also have family members that "hide" the booze when other family members are around because they don't want it known that they drink.
As an adult, with my own home and life, my hubby an I have no problem with a drink at the end of the day. We had a great Thanksgiving with the adults drinking either whiskey, beer, wine, iced tea or coffee and had a wonderful time. It depends on the people involved.

I have seen of many get togethers of family at Christmas for the sake of tradition and for mom and pop,
many axes to grind from year long scuffles with siblings, cousins and when drink comes into play...arguments usually break out.

Leave the drinking for one day....
It is one day, a day for happiness and joy more so for the kids to have HAPPY memories...
New Years is for us party animals.
