Or a condemnation of those who would misuse the armed forces. It's easy to come online and throw around terms like "tin soldiers." It comes across as an attempt to cheapen their service.

I know exactly what Joe was pointing out ...
I just wasn't going to let the positioning of Bales as a "victim" in the piece go by without pointing out that he ain't.
It's a tragedy for everyone involved ... including Bales.
Or a condemnation of those who would misuse the armed forces.
IMO...Bales has demonstrated a streak of violence before the service.....again IMO his defense is using the PDST as a veil to hide his violent tendencies....which discredit those really affected by it....which does a dis service to all....
I was just thinking that...how the heck he ever get into the service with a criminal record?....and a violent one at that...SSGT. Bales should have never been allow into the military. That in no way means that he could not be affected by PTSD or the drugs he was fed.
That is not meant to excuse his actions. There is, however, a LOT of evidence, hard evidence, that the press is withholding. It MAY come out during his court martial.
The term "tin soldiers" is not one used respectfully. The service and sacrifice of National Guardsmen and Reservists deserves honorable treatment as most fulfill their duties to the best of their ability. Since the war in Afghanistan began, many Guardsmen and Reservists have been called up for multiple deployments. Often, beyond reasonable expectations. Rather than maintain a properly staffed standing Army, the USA has been trying to have a war on the cheap. I can understand criticizing policy, but not troops in the field. We get what we pay for. Without the National Guard and Reservists we would indeed have a hollow Army.
It's easy to come online and throw around terms like "tin soldiers." It comes across as an attempt to cheapen their service. For the most part, our fighting forces are young, patriotic and loyal even unto death. The policymakers are the real problem. Our troops are better than those who lead them.

Impressive logic ..... not ....Then the term "Tin gods" should be used. That would be far more accurate.
My comment had nothing to do with reservists or National Guard in particular. Tin soldiers are toys, replaced by other toys when they are broken. The "boy general" is not interested in fixing them, just replacing them. So he grabs some out of his toy box to be treated similarly to the broken ones. No biggie... he has bunches.
Standards are lowered to new lows with each passing day. I really don't know how he was accepted. Lower standards? Was his criminal record 'enhanced' by the press to divert attention from the problems at Ft Lewis? A combination of many factors? We may never find out the 'entire truth'.
Don't you have a barn to build or trees to cut?....gee whiz....LOLImpressive logic ..... not ....
The story was a bad example to use with his info in it....it muddied the water so to speak...2 different issues going.....makes it confusing....
No.Don't you have a barn to build or trees to cut?....gee whiz....LOL
You misunderstand the purpose of the story ...The story was a bad example to use with his info in it....it muddied the water so to speak...2 different issues going.....makes it confusing....
Don't get me started ....Either that, or that 'journalist', to use the term very lightly, is not the brightest bulb in the pack.
No.
Don't you have some pickles to tickle for something ?
You misunderstand the purpose of the story ...
Don't get me started ....
Do the cha-cha ....I have some salsa to tango with tho....
Nah ....LOL!! I thought you already were started!
Yup ... when it comes to anything related to the empire, they mostly serve as mouthpieces for the State ... either the politicos or bureaucrats ... depending on what it involves ....We both have a good sense of what 'journalists' are like these days. That profession seems to have been 'degrading' for a very long time.
