I do believe we should all pay attention to this senate bill, it effects everyone in this business. Whoever pays for the fuel should get 100% of the fuel surcharge anything less is just wrong!!!
God bless our Military and Vets.

We will be calling our senator today to ask that this bill not be passed. If I am reading this right this bill is only saying "IF" a fsc is charged this must be passed on. What I am afraid of is that many companies will just quit charging a fsc.
For us that get a FSC for deadhead miles this appears as if it will really hurt us.

This is not a solution, I called and emailed with an example why it is not a good bill.

Teamcaffee pointed out an important point, the DH pay will not include any FSC. But in addition to that, Panther and FedEx will have to change the way they make offers, no more flat rate FSC for the owner.

In addition, the carrier or broker who does the intake of the shipment, now can charge a handling fee or a processing fee which is a FSC but now does not have to justify it or pass it on.

If the OOIDA and the congress wants to help, examine the fuel taxes, maybe lower them a bit. AND if they really want to help the industry, Fair Tax.

Well forget any real tax break if that is what you are waiting for don't hold your breath. You know full well every broker out there is collecting a fsc and you know that 99% of them keep it. Shippers know that they have to pay a fsc to get the load hauled. To say this bill will end that is nut's. Things like this is the very reason the trucking industry will never get a fair deal. { i dont want to lose my fsc on dh so screw everyone else} You may make more if you were getting the right amount in the first place it may be more than the .30 fsc your getting for dh. Lets just cut eachothers wrists and see who bleeds out faster. But hey if you like knowing that the broker keeps money that the shipper paid for fuel while your buying the fuel then drive on. Hopefully when your out of business there will be better paying loads for the rest of us.

I think it still comes down to the bottom line if the load pays enough take it and if it does not pay enough do not accept the load.

I don't get DH FSC, so that does not apply to me.

Many see this government intervention as a good thing, it is not. A lot cry about EOBR and E-Logging at the same time they want government to take care of the FSC, sorry thats just plain dumb. If you want to control things, then you have to make decisions. If you can't make decisions, then you need someone to control things.

If the brokers are taking all the money that you think you are entitled to, well then don't take the load. This is how the system is to work and it is working. Brokers are such a small part of the problem, maybe we need to see the government step in with real price controls and set cost per mile rates, starting at $1.50 based on our individual income or better yet the age of our trucks, sounds good to me. Let's return to the days of the National Recovery Act and let them tell us how to run things - it can be the National Truckers Recovery Act (NTRA). Yep we can have the government tell you when to fuel, where to fuel, how much to fuel, what time of day and week you can run and how much you can carry. (if you think I am kidding about this read about the NRA)

I say let the free market work. Let people decide for themselves if the load is good enough or not. I and many others think that there are too many trucks, too many trucks mean too much supply and too much supply drives the price down.
