Actually Moot, a lot of driving offenses are ajudicated by a magistrate or referee, not a full judge - depending on the court. I know the county I used to live in, I would go see the local magistrate for that district (there were three cities that it served) and most if not all of the time it was how do you do, a small fine, court cost ($10) and out the door. The city next to our (different court district) had one judge to do all the work ad it was always puzzling why they had one judge for a lot of people and we had two magistrates and one judge. Also I think that you enter a plea when you show up for the hearing, not in front of the person hearing the case.

My wife's ticket was somewhat of a joke, the referee didn't even let her explain - just said "$125...pay the clerk". I think LFD would just explain what happened, answer a few questions and the person will say 'dismissed'.

Moot, you might be right because my "notice to appear" says its for a pre-trial conf. I know what you mean about cops that try to screw you. Last Dec I was ran into by a SOB pulling a lowboy trailer in Harlingen Tx. The professional driver then took off and when I chased him down he wanted to fight me. The cops that showed up told me that the accident could not have happened the way I said it did because there was not a ramp where I said. What those two cops didnt know was that I had a cam car device in my van. When they watched the accident in real time, in color, and with sound they still would not admit the other driver lied to them but did give him a ticket for improper land change. When I suggested they cite him for assult they told me to get on up the road.
