Giuliani NY Law License Status

Just an update. Giuliani's NY law license is currently suspended. The practical effect of that is he is suspended from practicing law in other states that tend to defer to the disciplinary actions of a lawyer's home state. The next steps in the NY disciplinary process could take months, even years. But today, his license is suspended.

Is Rudy Giuliani Actually Broke?

We hear a lot about Giuliani's debts and defaults. What about his revenue and assets?

His debts and defaults include the following:

His accountants have sued him for past-due fees.
His former attorney has sued him for $1.4 million in unpaid legal bills.
The IRS has put a lien for $550,000 in unpaid taxes on his Florida real estate.
He was ordered to pay $130,000 to cover legal fees for the two election workers he defamed and more damages will likely be ordered by a jury.
He was nearly jailed because of his failure to pay his third ex-wife $260,000 under their divorce settlement. Jail avoided by paying some of it.
His telephone company came after him for $57,000 in unpaid phone bills.
His press secretary says he cannot afford a new car.

The above list is actual debts or facts about his financial condition. Still to come are the tens of millions in court-ordered damages he will be ordered to pay when certain defamation trials are complete.

On the revenue and asset side:

He is said to earn $400,000 a year with his radio show.
He has a New York apartment worth $6.5 million now listed for sale.
A Trump PAC has paid $340,000 of Giuliani's legal fees.
Trump held a $100,000 per plate fundraiser for Giuliani. Total funds actually contributed is unknown. Likely $1 million or less.
People have contributed some to his legal defense fund; about $10,000.

Like I said, it's easy to track Giuliani's defaults and debts. Are there other revenues and assets not listed here?

The Reason We Don't Know

The reason we don't know the true state of Giuliani's finances is he has persistently refused to disclose that info, even when ordered by a court to do so. This is from October.

"In the five-page order the D.C. judge excoriated the former New York City mayor and personal attorney for former President Donald Trump for his "continued and flagrant disregard" of the court's request that he produce financial documents "concerning his personal and his businesses’ past and present assets, revenues, income, viewership metrics, and social media reach, all of which information is potentially pertinent at the upcoming damages trial." His stubborn refusal to obey the court order has consequences.

"'The jury will be instructed that it must, when determining an appropriate sum of compensatory, presumed, and punitive damages, infer that defendant Giuliani was intentionally trying to hide relevant discovery about the Giuliani Businesses’ finances for the purpose of shielding his assets from discovery and artificially deflating his net worth,' according U.S. District Court Judge Beryl Howell's ruling.'" That trial has concluded and the jury now has the case. Very soon, we'll likely see the jury award millions of dollars of actual and punitive damages to the two plaintiffs (Georgia volunteer election workers), and we'll here Giuliani's cries that he cannot pay them.

What the judge does in response to Giuliani's inability and/or refusal to pay remains to be seen. Personally, I'm hoping the judge will take a firm tone with Giuliani, find him in contempt, and seize his assets where she can, and award them to the plaintiffs.

By broadcasting lies about them, Giuliani visited great harm on these two election workers who did nothing wrong. He literally ruined their lives. He should pay a high price for doing so, and, to the extent possible, Giuliani's assets should be used to make the election workers whole.

FYI: "Rudy Giuliani revealed his financial information while he was vying for the presidency in 2007, indicating that he had a net worth of at least 18 million dollars and maybe as much as 70 million dollars." (Source)

This piece from Celebrity Net Worth provides current details. They say Giuliani's net worth is $1 million.

If that $1 million analysis is true (and without confirmation from defendant Giuliani, we wont' know), the Court should take steps to make sure that the major portion of whatever future money Giuliani earns goes to the election workers and he remains essentially penniless for the rest of his life. Whatever money Giuliani works for, his work should be for the benefit of his victims.

Yep. It's a safe bet that Giuliani does not have the $148 million the jury ordered him to pay in damages to defendants Moss and Freeman; so it's a safe bet the defendants will never see anything close to that amount.

But on Monday, they will have from the court the final judgement for that amount. Their legal team is poised to rapidly attach that judgement to every known asset Giuliani has, and any future income or assets that develop. For the rest of his broken, sad life, Giuliani will be subject to collections actions such that he will never have big money again. Any assets he has or money he makes will mostly flow to Moss, Freeman and a number of other creditors Guiliani stiffed or otherwise harmed.

Don't be too sure. This is a civil case in which a jury verdict awarded a $148 million. I'm not a legal expert and I may be wrong about this, but someone mentioned on the commentary tonight that in such a case, if an appeal is made, a bond must be posted by the appellant covering the amount in question. This is a huge amount. If it's true that Giuliani would be required to post a bond to appeal, where will Guiliani get the money needed to post such a bond? And if he finds such money, and brings it out into the open, what's to keep Moss and Freeman from taking actions to attach their judgement to that money?

And if I'm wrong about the bond thing, and an appeal is made, what would the grounds be? The trial was a fair trial. Unless there is reversible error not now evident, there is no reason to believe an appeal will succeed. It is possible the amount of damages may be trimmed back some by a higher court, but Giuliani would still be liable for defamation and still owe many millions.

At the hands of a jury that made a major statement, the defendants received their justice, and Guiliani received his retribution. Judgments like these are called intentional torts. They are not dischargeable in bankruptcy. Freeman and Moss can chase Giuliani to his grave with claims on his money.

With their massive award, the jury condemned Giuliani to live the rest of his life as a broke joke.

Moral of the story: don't tell lies about elections and election workers.

At What Point Will Giuliani be Held in Contempt?

I am often frustrated by the slow speed at which courts act. Yesterday's $148 million jury verdict against Giuliani will overshadow other details of this case. One of those items goes back to September.

"Rudy Giuliani has failed to pay more than $132,000 in sanctions he faces for failing to respond to parts of a lawsuit from two Georgia election workers, according to a court filing.

"In addition, US District Judge Beryl Howell on Friday ordered the former New York mayor to pay an additional $104,000 to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, a mother and daughter he defamed, for additional legal fees they’ve incurred because of his failure to respond to parts of their lawsuit." (Source)

The judge orders Giuliani to pay. Giuliani does not pay. The judge then orders Giuliani to pay more. And Giuliani does not pay that either.

What happens next? Nothing.

At what point will Giuliani be held in contempt? Will he ever be held in contempt? What's the point of the court ordering Giuliani to pay sanctions and legal fees if the orders can be freely ignored?

As I said above, the plaintiffs will have their final judgement from the court in hand on Monday, which empowers them to take direct action to attach that judgement to collect whatever Giuliani assets and income they can find. But the above court orders are different, and to date, they remain ignored by Giuliani and unenforced by the Court.

Other Liars Being Brought to Account

The news-making $148 million jury verdict in favor of Moss and Freeman is not the only lawsuit brought by those two to bring election liars to account. Other lawsuits they brought include:

The OAN lawsuit which OAN settled for an unknown amount of damages and a public retraction of the lies they told.

The Gateway Pundit lawsuit, which is ongoing.

Readers will recall the massive settlement FOX News made with Dominion after Dominion called FOX to account for the election lies they broadcast.

The facts are clear. In court after court, the big lie is exposed as a lie. And the people who told it are being held accountable by juries for the damage they caused.
