so gang....you've been sitting for 3 days dispatch calls...an EMT move for .20 CV rate...and you are willing to take it....

just before you pull out dispatch calls a 1 skidder customer only wants to pay .60 a mile.....you REFUSE it.....

Now you've just been offered three time yep 3x's the EMT rate...and you refuse...

The dispatch takes back the EMT move based on the above....and says, suck it up....

for straights we 'll just say EMT is .50 and load offer is a $1.00

what makes one ok and the other not so ok?.....

many times been with another driver and they get a low ball load offer and say no...at end of day they are taking a EMT move...

Well, everyone wants the answer to be "say no to cheap freight" and in general that's the best answer but that's not an absolute answer. "Mr. Expediter, we'd like you to sign on with our company, Acme Widgets and Expediting, at a rate of 60cpm loaded plus fsc.". Well duh, no.

Sitting 3 days, presumably 3 weekdays not one weekday plus Saturday and Sunday, faced with the choice of 20cpm empty or 60cpm, presuming the same destination in both cases, then definitely the 60cpm. That at least covers the full cost of fuel, tires, belts, hoses, etc. etc. plus one meal along the way or afterward.

The point of all this is to make money not lose money. Oh, and unless this is a major fluke and I am certain of that, as soon as I get to my new location I tear the 3 day sitting spot out of the atlas to avoid the same problem again.

Maybe, if its taking you to a good area. But remember taking a cheap load today sets your furture rates.

I refuse both. It only creates a downward pressure on rates. I get paid enough on the load to cover any DH out or I don't take it. If I miss-calculate then that is on me.

There becomes a point for any one person where cheap becomes to cheap. I don't mind being a high class hooker at times but becoming a lot lizard is going to far.

You have to look at all angles. Are you the only truck around,if not how many ahead of you. Where you have been sitting,is it normally a busy or ok area? Where was the .20 cent relocate to. Where was the .60 load going to. I would take the .60 if it took me to as good an area as the empty move. If it took me to a hole,I would refuse. This business can be a crap shoot.I would rather be lucky than good.I have accepted loads because they paid good but was cursing myself because they went to a bad area sometimes I got right back out of there and sometimes not.I have taken lower paying loads and cursed myself, and Bam,that load led me to a great load, and other times not. You just have to make your call and then live with it. I do try to stay in good freight lanes and within profit margins, but sometimes you have to improvise. I might not have even accepted the .20 move in the first place, just depends where I was and the day of the week.To me that is a large part of the appeal to Expediting, you never know what is going to happen next. You could sit for three days, not move for .20,refuse that .60 load and then get a good load later or not! I don't think a dispatcher is gonna think because you took a cheap load this time you always will.I do think they will try to dispatch the lower paying load first if they can.

I'm sorry, if you want to pay a crappy rate, call a crappy carrier.
If I take a load, I'm giving you superior service. That comes at a premium.

Turning down a low cost load is an investment in my future.
