Rent To Own!!

I heard that Panther is tired of deadbeat fleet owners throwing around their weight and threatening to pull their fleets every time one of their trucks sits longer than a day! From what I have been told, Panther is now in the process of setting up a rent-to-own program where they are going to rent used trucks to new owner operators. That way if a driver leaves Panther, the truck will remain in the fleet. I am glad Panther has finally decided to stand up to greedy-money-grubbing-deadbeat-fleet owners. It must be getting pretty bad for fleet owners in this economic downturn. Good luck.

I would be very surprised to see Panther start purchasing assets after being a non-asset company all these years. I wonder if they did do that would those contracters still be under a non forced dispatch? Honestly I'll chalk this up to the rumor mill.

I wouldnt do it,to be tied into a company and have them keep me hanging by the nuts in that way.Keep yourself as separate from the company as possible(plates, insurance, truck note, etc.)

I agree, I think they are arranging a third party to help with it and promoting it under their banner with some sort of leasing arrangement for a driver with good credit and good standing (meaning low risk) to be able to lease to own a truck.

Ok....I'll guess I'll have to answer this one. There is NO truck rental program going on at Panther. This is from Jeff St. Pierre this morning. Sorry, but it doesn't exist, and no plans in the future for it to happen.
There are lease purchases available from some fleet owners. You can call those rentals or anything else, but they have been in existence for years.
So....us "greedy-money-grubbing-deadbeat-fleet owners" are still going to be stealing your loads and running everyday.

This is just a way to bring in people that aren't financially responsible . I guarantee the same trucks will be rented to several contractors if this truly comes about .

What? :D

The words from 'successful' expediters telling people that 'the water's great, come on in' or the great amount of boasting about vans making money hand over fist doesn't have a convincing affect on decisions to jump right into this great lucrative business?

Some of the "great advice" has to be tempered with the knowledge that most of the pros here have fought the battle to be as successful as we have been...and it is long trudge uphill...we did not get here without our problems...And staying on top, is a constant struggle....the biz is in constant flux of change...
