Regular CV freight vs. Sprinter

I'm a little confused about the maintainence differences. Why would the sprinter vans require more maintainence? Or is it that parts are more expensive? Or is the scheduled maintainence more costly?

It is a bit of all that...except they DON'T require MORE maintenance..just the proper maintenance..

I understand Nissan is coming to this country with a sprinter competitor

Nissan's website has a full size cargo van called the NV. Looks to be based on the Titan pickup frame. Prices look good with a LOT of features and you know it will last forever. I'm still sticking with Ford.

I haven't looked at the nissan site in a while, but if I remember right, the GVW is over 10,000 lbs....

They have half, 3/4, and 1 ton models. They do look interesting. Also there are reports of both a cummins engine and Allison trans in the future.

I've been thinking of a Ford E-350 spartan 12 ft body, srw, 5.4 gasser.See them as low as $28,000,fully equipped.Roll-up door, etc.Just as wide and high as a sprinter, but not as long.Stand-up from the seats and walk in to the cargo area.A nice alternative from a regular c/v.I've run the numbers, and there is not much difference cost wise between a gas and a diesel, when you take into consideration the less fuel mileage of a gasser, along with the lower cost of gas, vs the higher cost of diesel, and the higher mpg. Then the repairs, oil changes, etc, lighter weight, a gasser is making more sense, especially with so many people getting the same longevity and dependibility of a diesel out of a gasser.I see Ryder has alot of 06 sprinters on the market right now, mileage from the mid 50's, for 20-$25,000.

The Nissan 3500 HD van hightop has a curb weight of 6143 lbs with a payload of 3582 lbs - 9800 lb GVW according to their press kit. The problem isn't that, but they seem to only offer it in one WB - 146" with a 10 foot cargo area.

I don't think this is a sprinter killer by any means but if Ford would get their crap together and bring the full size transit here, that would be a sprinter killer.

I highly suspect Ford will price them in the $50k range...
