If ya mean after ya shut the truck down, mine goes into a quiet mode shortly after shutting off truck and then goes to sleep (black screen)after 1 to 1 1/2 hours or so..
No idea how to stretch out the time..

The unit can be setup for different timeouts, if you are with FedEx, landstar or Pant'r, then call them and have it changed. I don't know about e-1

Why does QC sometimes go back to the first message when it restarts and at other times it shows the last message?

if you dbl click your ignition key,you can shut qc down right away ,if you want it to stay on longer,as greg said, call your company, they can adjust how many hours you want it to stay on,but remember,it draws lots of battery juice

I have been told (grain of salt) that if you turn the light off, the drain is not as bad.

light has nothing to do with it, it is seeking and transmitting every once in a while and running the computer and radio that all drains it.

As Night said, turn off the van/truck and then turn the key on and then off quickly, you will hear a little faint chirp and it should be off.

Not all shut off Greg, ours does not. It will time out as per the setting, 12 hours, but we are NOT able to shut it off otherwise and NO ONE at FedEx OR the Qualcom place that looked at it seems to know why. All we have been told is some do shut off and some don't. :(

I know why, but no one would beleive me if I gave details, but here is the overview.

Qualcomm told me a while ago that there are some units programmed not to shut off unless power is pulled. These units are usually on high value equipment, like those million dollar trailers hauling those gover'mint loads and sometimes for those special trucks that haul that expensive art work and phrama stuff around.

It is in the programming, FedEx won't tell you and qualcomm won't do anything until they are asked to by the subscriber which is not you.

That would explain it then. Thanks

In the early days (prior to 1999) we were able to modify the stay on time at will. This was changed and only the personnel at FECC with the proper password can make the change

Mine is a cell phone model and it doesn't shut off until I unplug the power. It doesn't consume near the power of the satellite models.

That one's not Qualcomm. It operates on cell towers for communication and satellite for positioning.

It is Qualcomm. It just isn't Qualcomm satellite. From the driver seat the system looks the same. It works off the cell tower system like highway star said. Took me a while to figure out I wasn't being tracked by a satellite. Sort of nice to not have to always sit in the sun. But the signal is only as good as cell tower coverage. Mine is set up so it only updates my position once every 30 minutes or hour (real pain in the rear). Messages take 10-15 minutes to clear the buffer to arrive at the other end (real pain in the rear). I don't know if it can be set up for real time position and communication. Mine is portable. Plugs into the cigarette lighter. The keyboard, antenna, cables, and control box stow away in a soft briefcase.

Call these folks,,They are an authorized QC dealer and repair shop. They are top notch with Qualcomms,,they had a Field day with the way Aluimi-Bunk installed mine and completely gutted it and started over a few years ago.. I'm sure they will answer your Q's over the phone,, then call your carrier to see bout getting it worked on. Ill deadhead there before letting Aluimi-bunk work on my wiring again.

PJs? Give me a break. I had them install QualComms in two of my vehicles and both had lots of problems until a competent shop put on good stuff.
Believe me, I would have done a better job myself.
4 years ago they butchered my wires in my van AFTER I told them where thy need to hook it up. Remember, I came from another company, and I already had a QualComm installed. Everything was there, no need to cut into anything else. But what do I know, I am just a stupid truck driver. When I got home and I looked at what hey did, I felt like crying.
Then 2 months ago in my tractor trailer they installed the QualComm, I leave down the road and the stinking thing has the NO SIGNAL light on for 90% of the time. Went to another place and they replaced the dome. I looked at the dome that PJs installed and it was so rusted, why in the hell did they even put it on? Not to mention that they installed my signs too, and they are peeling already. Oh, and they switched 2 numbers, instead of E8645 they put E8654. I would avoid PJs as the plague. Wish FedEx will give us a choice if we want it installed somewhere else.

I just turn my C Link on and off manually.

The switch is on the back side,
it kind of looks like a power cord.
Just a little tug,
tadaaa,
silence.........:D

I agree on PJ's doing a lousy job. I showed them exactly where to get power for the QC, a nice easy OEM switched and battery power source for add on equipment.

I got a QC that would not shut off at all, and that I found was butcher wired into my transmission ECM harness!! Of course it was February and the QC quickly drained the battery and it froze. They got my unit numbers wrong as well.

Gave up trying to get my money back.
