Pros and cons to a permanent sleeper

I am looking in to getting a sprinter and I have noticed that there is kinda mixed feelings on a permanent sleeper but I like the comfort I want to hear what you guys have to say I understand having a permanent sleep reduces the amount of skies I can haul but is the discomfort with it I would like to hear from people with a permanent sleeper and people with out. Thanks

The comfort is awesome, but if you want the loads don't do it.

As everyone keeps saying .... bigger is better :D

Couldn't you have comfort without a 'permanent' sleeper? Like an inflatable bed [ one friend uses one in her s/t, she says it inflates/deflates very fast, & is very comfy] or a bed that folds against the wall?
If you swap the passenger seat for a microfridge [as several vanners have done], you would have the comforts and the space.....
There are as many ways to set up a van as there are vans, and some very good examples have been posted in the past, with photos.

Yes, bigger is better, but it's moot when you have a Friday pickup for Monday delivery and no place to sleep for three night. It's also jut as meaningless when you are on a long load and need a nap in order to remain safe and there's no place to lie down and get any meaningful, reconstructive sleep, be it thirty minutes or eight hours.

People love to bandy about the notion of "no freight is worth risking your life over," yet that's precisely what they do when they have no place to get any meaningful sleep when their body requires it. Except they are also risking other people's lives for freight, too.

Not going to do it, Nope, Not going to.

Why ever not? I got a chrome stickon [above my EO bumpersticker] that says "Size matters" :D
[Only cause Auto Zone gave me the 3" of tubing I needed for free, and so I felt obligated to buy SOMETHING, lol.]

Size does matter, we lost a very load because the door opening on the box of our straight truck was an inch too small, darn.

I lose a little over 4 bazillion loads every day because they won't fit in my Sprinter.
I ain't worried.

We don't have a permanent sleeper, but have a full size bed if it two standard pieces a futon style bed if its 9 1/2 feet and no bed if its 3 pieces.

I always have a place to lay down and sleep in my sprinter. It is smaller with three skids than two but is always available. I would never go without the capacity for three skids. Turtle and I had this debate long ago and we both seem pretty stuck on our feeling on the subject. I would discuss it with the carrier your hoping to sign on with before reducing your space to two floor skids. For the most part our carrier will not hire someone without a three skid capacity. I can say that during the last five weeks which have been slow my longest three loads were all three skids.

It's pretty simple, it doesn't matter what Turtle or xiggi say, don't invest hundreds or thousands on a permanent sleeper without going out on the road with a temporary solution. Investing thousands on a sleeper only to find out your carrier won't pay you the increased Sprinter rates because you can only carry 2 skids.

Who knows, you may learn that you can get by just fine on a cot mattress or an air mattress. Or you might find that a permanent bed is a must for you and is worth giving up those 3 skid loads. But if you do, be cognisant that you are now paying that extra money for your comfort and not to make you money.

Most importantly, you need to do what's right for you and the only way you are going to know is by getting out there and testing it out.

Maybe we should ask him how tall he is...??? at 6ft 4...meaningful sleep would be tough sleeping side to side..but if 5ft 6...no problem...
Then the fact that true 48x48'are rare these days..get more 45x48's....so in these new sprinters even with 3 you'll still have over 3ft almost 4 behind the seat...

True, not every one can fit side to side in a sprinter
I vote for a recliner and a flat panel TV:D

I have been in the business since may, I have a small sprinter. It has a fold down bed, I can only fit 125 inches in cargo area. In these few months I have had 4 runs that has taken my entire cargo area, and had to nap at the wheel. Don't know how many times I might have gotta a load if I had more cargo space. Looking to upgrade to a longer sprinter when I can afford it.
