Special copier or not, who cares? These Marines are elite fighting and killing machines. How dare someone have them stand guard in front of this hunk of metal?
My point is this: I find it hilarious that folks (veteran, active duty, or civilian) think they have the knowledge of what a specific military specialty's duties include, when those folks criticizing have never served in that capacity.
Who are any of you (OP included) to say what that Marine's duties include?
You seem to have a misunderstanding of what SOME marines duties are. Not all marines are "combat marines". Just as in the army, navy and air force.
There were marines that had the same MOS as I did in the army. They were morse code intercept ops. The marines, army, etc, have protective mos as well. They are often called upon to guard specific people or equipment. There were several definitions of "guarding"but none included umbrellas.
We had "guards" in Japan. Their job was to destroy all our equipment, burn all documents and insure that we were NEVER taken prisoner, by what ever means possible. They were Air Force. We were not armed and had no means to defend ourselves if attacked.
For all I know that "copier" was used for highly classified work and it's "memory" was to be protected. OR, they were being "punished". I once saw two marines, standing in the rain, "guarding" the BX snack bar. I don't know what their particular "infraction" was but the marines often used "punishment" like that for minor screws ups to keep things off record.
Being a "personal valet" is demeaning, nothing short of being a personal slave. If that poor baby Obama can't stand to get wet, he should learn to stay out of the rain on his own, or wear a rain coat. Most intelligent men know that by his age.
