Places you won't wait

There have been a lot of discussions on here about places people like to park and what not, and that has me wondering about those places you just don't like to stick around. What are those places you just won't wait around for another load after you deliver, or you won't wait more than a couple hours? What are your reasons for not sticking around? Carrier doesn't have anything out of there, no decent truck stops, just don't like the city, etc. Where do you normally go when you leave said area? It seems that with every city in the country, there is always somebody who doesn't like that area for whatever reason, and I'm curious to see what those reasons are.

Mine is Detroit. I've never really liked that city, so I won't stick around that long looking for something there. Being an independent and doing mostly brokered loads, there's normally way too much competition around there anyway, so I will normally just head home to Cincinnati by the end of the day if I don't get something. What are your "I won't sit around there" areas?

That's easy. Memphis.

Don't like it, been robbed, truck broken into and shippers have been a pain in the a**. I thought NYC people were rude but get the cop who has had a bad day telling you "so you got robbed, what do you want me to do about it?"

NYC is another place ... well I like the city but not in a truck.

AND of course Detroit because it is got to be the best place to see a war zone.

Good Q. My first thought was also Memphis. I'd just head to Nashville. Ironic ya both mention Detroit, I'm in Flint & often have a tough time getting out.

I'm not sure how I'll work it, but come summer I won't be to thrilled to sit around any place that gets over 100 degrees. I've never been to Laredo, so if I get an offer there I'll def. take it & try it out. If I find I'm sitting 2-3 days in that heat on a regular basis though, I'll reconsider at that time.

Don't take a load to Laredo a couple of three days before Memorial Day weekend. You'll be there for 4 or 5 days, and it'll be 112 everyday, with not a cloud in the sky. :D

Pittsburgh: no truckstops or loads out. I beat feet to Youngstown, usually.

Youngstown have a very high crime rate. I prefer to stay at the "J" outside of Pittsburgh. It is a bit further out than I like but much lower crime rate than Youngstown. You would not believe just how many of my "little darlins" came from Youngstown at the youth prison I used to work at.

We stay away from W. Memphis and the Pilot in downtown Birmingham, AL.

OOOO, OOOO, Don't go to the TA or any of those places in Dallas either.

I must be crazy...I'll stay in W.Memphis, and Dallas area...and Detroit no problem either...

The last time we stayed at the TA in Dallas there were 2 robberies. It will remain the last time we stayed there. I know at least on FDCC team that had a problem as well. They had a laptop stolen from their truck.

Must be the difference between the front parking and being in the back lot...Out front we can watch out for each other...

I have yet to get a return load from Detroit. The people at the auto plants are very friendly, but I won't stay anywhere in that area. I just began doing this in January, but being a retired Deputy Sheriff, I know enough to not tempt fate in Detroit.

The to robberies were out back. The laptop was taken from a s/t out front. Also, most of the time us s/trucks are told to leave from out front.

Whoa, my bubble just burst...I thought you were fearless. Guess I'll have to shorten that pedestal a little bit.

Bemidji, MN. Yeah, I won't stick around there. Move down to the Twins.

Tampa or Miami, I won't really wait long. Oh wait, maybe that's cuz I live in Orlando.

I don't stay in south Dallas. I don't get closer to Memphis than either Olive Branch or Earle depending on which direction I'm coming from.

I am now pushing 60 years old. I can no longer "mix it up" with a 18 year old punk. It has always been smarter to avoid problems, at any point in my life, than to put myself in harms way. I was always able to handle problems when things were equal. Neither Mrs. Layoutshooter nor I carry our "equalizers" on the truck. It would be safer for us if we did, but there are just far too many problems with that situation to make it worth the effort. Law enforcement does very little to protect the safety of those on the street.

I found the TA on I20 at Terrell to be a nicer one quiet and big lot and they let straight stay out front..and I can puff in that one as well...and it is just outside the beltway...

I try to stay at the Pilot N of 40 in W. Memphis...or better yet Olive Branch..

We try to go out to Olive Branch when we are out that way.
