Had you been in expediting in the 1990s you would have met your own criteria for shameful greed. Shippers were limited to a very few national expedite carriers. If they wanted freight moved immediately they payed big time for expedite service.

If you don't like the prices truck stops charge for convenience store crap, go to WalMart. If you don't like the rates national expedite carriers charge, call a carrier that runs former Penske trucks.

I agree with ya Moot on going elsewhere and I do. But I dont think its right that they charge more then 2.50 gallon for something so basic and something that is needed for survival (water). At $1.10 or 1.30 a gallon I bet it would fly off the shelfs. Even @ $1.50 that should show a nice profit. Im not against them making money just against them raping the ppl that cant move to the local grocery store, or the mother that pulls off the hi-way and needs water for her kids..They charge it because they have a captive audience.

As far as the carriers rate,, your correct I wasnt around for the good times, But I have been playing with trucks propely as long as anyone here and know it just wasnt just this industry that seen the good times go by the way side. More then anything I would bet my bottom dollar on what I call greed on the Oil companys/Fuel suppliers that caused this turn around. Maybe Gouging would be a better word to use but that could be construed as extortion I guess.

As far as I can remeber I have never said anything against a carriers rate and just recently left a carrier and the Penske rental trucks was 1 thing that help me make the move, not all of it just 1 of the things. Will I ever go back to them?? I dont know yet..I didnt leave there because I didnt like em..I made a good living there.

All it requires is a little planning ahead. This is nothing new under the sun, the small neighborhood markets have never been able to compete with the pricing of the big players and have never expected to be a place where most people do their bulk shopping. Nothing stops the guy that's going to be "captive" at a truckstop while he does his 34 from stocking up before he gets there. I rarely spend money in the travel stores beyond a cup of coffee. But when i do, I know I'm going to pay a premium. Not a big deal.

Planning is all well and good until ya sit for as long as I have done right now and I ran myself out..granted its not a big deal..It cost me more money to go into town to get restocked as I refused to pay those prices. Still doesnt stop the fact I beleive its greed that drives the market. The over head to stock those water bottles isnt that much to justify the high mark-up..There isnt a bottle of water on the face of this earth worth that kinda money. Others things such as tobacco, pizza etc etc propley do cost em labor. How much useless junk is in there that never gets sold and moved into the flea markets? We pay for that overhead.

Side note..Still sitting and consuming water at a high rate..LOL

I've refilled my 2 plastic gallon jugs at the sink in the truckstops for years without any problems. Even if you don't want to do it on a regular basis, it beats paying the high price [or wasting fuel to go elsewhere] in a pinch.
PS The thing about germs is that some of them are actually beneficial, and even the bad ones are needed to build immunity. A germ free life would be horrible!

Cherri, there are hundreds of pages on the internet that speak about water quality. in a nutshell you are correct, for the most parts buying bottled water is unnecessarily. there are several different problem with that. dirt {how well dose the water are filtered,when was the last time the filter was replaced/cleaned}. chemical{whats in your water}. bacteria{there's always some, concentration IS a problem}. floral{additives, some are flat-out necessarily}. osmosis levels.{go's back to filtration} and so on.{sorry gottogo}

I thought we are discussing alleged thievery at Flying J/Pilot.

BTW,making a decent profit , and being a good steward of that money is ok.

Stealing money to buy a football team or any other reason is wrong.

A crappy football team at that. ;)

If you have not taken time to read that injunction, (or whatever it's called), against Pilot .. might be a good time to do so, even if you just skim through the 120 pages of it.

Shameful.

Considering I use the same coffee cup day in and day out and the fact my right arm just got tore up somewhat by another expeditors dog I think I have gotten my qouta of germs for the week..
Left that dog and my parking spot of several days behind me now and D/heading north towards the house.

In all fairness to the dog..he was just being a dog..Good Pup.

Get off the beaten path for your fuel and ya can get it for a quarter or 2 less, not just pennys. But you know that.
I dont just think, I know I am entitled to that shower credit..It says so in their agreement when I buy their fuel.

I sometimes find out buying my fuel at grocery store fuel islands saves me 15 to 20 cents, but before I look for them I check cost plus prices for TA/ Petro. The only thing is no showers when I don't fuel at the truck stops and paying upwards of 13 dollars for a shower is highway robbery.

The LEAST we can all do {i did} is contact our carrier to make sure the carrier actually got those rebates back, and go over our statements for the last year & make sure the carrier pass those saving to us.

There is a difference between FSC and a fuel rebate, FSC at LS goes to me at 100% and fuel rebates are a bonus a carrier gives you and they don't have to give you one red cent of this money because it's a deal they work out with the truck stops.

I could care less if the carrier got his rebate or not I look at my rebate every week on my fuel card and its there.

I don't like the taste, that's why I prefer bottled water. During my childhood I was drinking water from the well, we had one in the backyard.
