Panther business down (up to 40%) past week

I drive for an owner, who has 6 straights, and 1 tractor. In the last week, my co-driver & I have ran 4 pros, totaling 2727 miles. Not great, but for 6 days it's not bad, either, especially with the slowdown. If you're complaining now, whats going to happen in July during shutdown? This is expediting, the nature of the beast. "Hurry up and wait". Sorry to sound so cynical, but you can't rely on last year's freight trends with an economy that is so wishy-washy. It will pick up.......I've been doing this on & off for 6 years, and just when you think it can't get any worse, people will start to complain that they can't take a break because they're so busy......;-)

I don't see that ghost driver concept working at Panther either. It would be interesting though when their random came up and the other half is 1000 miles away.
As far as Panther being sold, it is possible, but not for a good while. They have way too many opportunities available to capitalize on prior to any sale. Additionally, Fenway is a investment firm. Transportation stocks are valued low right now, so I wouldn't expect too much for a while. Because of their growth, I agree as a fleet owner, that they currently have the best opportunities. With all the talk of slowdowns, we are still moving pretty well. A look at the EO classifieds pretty much tells you who is moving, and who isn't.

WOW, never expected to open such a can of worms. Good to hear most are doing well. I am home now and I am sure that things will pick up.

Someone mentioned 'ghost drivers'

YUP, they are out there and what Panther needs to do is verify that the other driver is in the truck before they accept the load. BTW, I like Panther and that's why I have been with them for 3 years. Like any company they have issures that need to be addressed.

Good luck out there and be safe!

thats 2745 total paid miles for the week, if buisness is down, I dont know what I will be able to do when it picks up...oh yea BTW I am a solo tractor on paperless logs, so no cheating done here, and yes these are all panther loads, no backhaul loads here, not to mention, the FSC, and the 5 extra stops and Haz-Mat, and 2 hours of detention. This week started on 4-23-07 and ended on 4-30-o7.
I posted this, not to brag, but to offset your post by saying from looking out my windshield and at my loads buisness is not down, it seems to be doing great. oh yea, I did also turn down 3 loads during this past week, needed to sleep some....good luck and be safe
