>You are correct to ask that ...I was incorrectly commenting on ones ability to have a record 1st quarter..which I may have misread also...but success is relative to one expectations on past performance .. and I guess one could have a record or agreat 1st quarter irrespective of what I feel is a great 1st quarter based on the money I have made. and not made .... i too have been lucky smart, and somethimes wonderd what the h%ll was i thinking..Liers ..way too strong of a word... I tend to get a little over zealous in trying to make my point, that freight is soft this year.
Thanks for the luck on my new endeavor ..I have a daughter the needs a little attention so the timing on my exit worked out good.
OH.... and CHERRI:9 :9 ;) in case you get to HOTLANTA my number is 867-5309... its warmer down here ..you know ,not as nippy:eek:

Alright Topline,

If my numbers are "slow" I will take them everytime.....Also owner of 8 not 6 ...1 truck waiting for new team...one tractor that I did not include as my partner is running it solo...but she did 2900 miles solo last week....there is no need to "make numbers up". Shame on you if you had teams setting for 3-4 days...not shame on your teams. You have to work hard to keep your trucks moving...example....one of my trucks 1400 mile run to slc...lately anything out of there has benn going to Montana.....worse than edge of hell imho. So when they get there I check board they are 2nd out....dh them to los angeles, 692 miles.....they took a mini run and got a 1st out....an hour later a 2557 mile run to VA.....so for 2 loads I had 692 miles dh Adding the miles with the 3 loads and dividing the empty miles by the loaded they ran 16% deadhead...pretty good tradeoff and they did not sit 3-4 days waiting for that load. Let me know when you are ready to sell your trucks.

Lots of these owners don't have a clue. They choose to sit on their hands, and be spoon fed. Better not make too good an offer, you'll probably own some trucks you don't want.

lol...thanks for the laugh Col. I just do not understand how you can be a business owner and entrepeneur and then blame your lack of success on who you CHOOSE to lease on with. My business may go down the tubes one day...but it will not be because of who I am leased to. As far as trucking goes....as long as jerry Moyes continues to have his way, everyone in trucking will suffer...it is just a question of how much.

The location of that is known only to Dave and me. That's why Dave has been willing to replace my older truck with a new one. I promised not to tell where it is. But a hint would be Tn.

I think it will be funny when he goes in to pay for it thou. (can you say 33k truck overloaded)

We are doing well and adding a few pennies a month to that pond. As to its location, it is a "secret":7

I should add for Topline, if your trucks are sitting, I would be alittle more selective on what your teams accept, move your trucks according to where the freight is, and educate yourself on locating your own freight. Sometimes you have to take alittle inititive on your own.

I expect my loads will go up in 10 more days. ( along with my laundry being done properly again ) Thats right the "other half of the team comes off her three month vacation. " Welcome home "honey", now get in the truck"

Hi

My numbers are down from previous years also, 9 loads for the month with 4000 loaded miles and an average waiting time between loads is 2 days.
What is really hurting me is the 40 cent increase in fuel price over the last 2 months and as the van ages the maintanence cost are starting to increase.

Hopefully my luck start to improve in May.May is usually one of my best months.

I would like to know who covered the deadhead to LA for your truck Charlotte? If you paid for the fuel that is great but then that is still time that team didn't make any money.Yes they wouldn't have made any sitting either, but that's driving time that they were working for free.

We pay for fuel...and belive me when I tell you the team had no problem driving to LA.....as you said they do not get paid for sitting either....they made 1329.64 off the one load from LA...then got to VA and got another 700 mile load when they unloaded in VA....that makes 2k for them this week, and they still have till Monday.....I think they are rather glad they spent 12 hours driving to get their loads.

I have great difficulty with this "working for free" mentality. If they aren't astute enough to extend themselves a bit, i'd let em sit and whine I guess, steada fighting them.

As do I col....as an owner operator I never consider the time I take to relocate myself as working for free. Or maybe I consider sitting waiting for a load working for free also......that could be it :p

Charlotte, i have to ask you a question. How many of your teams are government? I know when i was running general freight it was kinda slow, but now that we went gvmt we pretty much just havent shut down. So i guess we have to put that into consideration.

But the fleet owners we run for have noticed a slow down in freight. But it seems now that things have picked up lately.

None of my teams are government......All do Canada and either have or are working on Hazmat....but no Government. I have tripled fleet size since this time last year so all I can go on is what we were running witht he trucks that were on at that time....and we are definitely busier. I am not saying there is not a slowdown out there...I just think that panther is doing the right things to help ensure that we still have freight.

I think this guy was pulling your leg. I cannot see any company having "fake teams".

How long you've been with Panther? Some fleet owners know how to make money..Panther is an opportunity...my opinion is their are trying to sell the company, if you remember when Fenway got PII they were doing same thing like now, got more vans than they need and forcing drivers to take every load...with that stupid acceptance %...that don't work for me...I'm not a PII fan but now is time to make money with them
