In almost 4 years experience with 3 carriers I've been asked two times to proceed in a manner I considered unsafe at the time. I have heard it from drivers with many companies, including the ones who talk a big safety game. At most companies I think it's uncommon enough that some drivers can go an entire long career and never hear it, but it still happens even in seemingly perfect companies safety wise.

I have never ever been asked to go faster. I have been harassed on the phone to hurry up but not go faster.

I have to say FedEx has been great with adjusting the times and talking to the customer, even when the customer didn't care.

But with that said, I have had one really big issue with one person there who told me safety was not important and I should never stop to rest. This has been corrected and I was apologized to by some manager a while after it happened. No one ever spoke to me like that and I will not tolerate it at all, especially when it is my decision on how to run my vehicle, not hers.

Here is a good one for you.

I got a load picking up in Portage, Mi going to Brownstown, Mi. 5 hours to go 147 miles or so. I picked up about an hour early. Customer service called me and ask why I was late for my drop. It was 1515 and he said I was to be unloaded at 1445. I told him my flux dohicky went out on me and I was unable to travel back in time and arrive 15 min before protect time at consignee then arriving before I left shipper. I could here him thinking !

Yep, pickup was at 1500 with a 2000 protect for drop. LOL

He ended the call by saying "computers are going to kill me"
