I know I was part of the original mess here but this wasn’t a panther bash it has gotten so far off the topic now its not funny the mane topic here was how many con-way people was still at panther? Should either start another thread of what’s wrong /right with panther or talk about how many ex con-way people are still at panther I would really like to know!

Stupid or Simply uninformed or misinformed would be my guess in many "stupid cases" Ran into a poor ConWay transplant who thought that the "available" on the relocation screens (macro #8) meant how many loads were available in a given area, not how many drivers/trucks were available. Poor guy kept thinking "if 4 loads are available, then how come I am # 2 and cannot get one of those loads?" I might add he is 10 years in this country and there IS a language barrier. Anyhow, I informed him that available means how many trucks are currently available in any given area....the light bulb went off and he was clearly happy that P2 wasn't giving him the "slip";) So sometimes drivers simply misunderstand the "system" or blame the co when the system is at fault or visa/versa. Then again, I agree with Leo when people jump all over dispatchers for one thing or another blaming everyone but themselves. But more than drivers being "stupid" I prefer to think they are just misinformed, misunderstood, or plain miserable...and wonder why some of them even stay in this business at all. Granted I will be the 1st to say something when I think it isn't right, and I really believe there is MUCH room for improvement within the company, the systems, ie the QC and what it will and will not do. :p

I understand Leo's frustration on some of these items. When I looked at this whole thread there are alot of posts but only a handful are actually drivers that work for Panther and complaining. Those same members have posted numerous times. A relatively small number of drivers compaining verses a fleet of 1500 trucks isn't a true representation of everyones dealings. The same issues with a employee/dispatcher relationship. There are 340 employees. I would see little gained by staying focused too long on the dealings of one person. Not every encounter is likely to result in a hand holding affair. That is pretty much like any large company.
But, as Leo mentioned, sometimes the irritants are because of a few that are irresponsible business people. Maybe not stupid, but irresponsible.

Case in point. Several months ago we got a call on the west coast after delivering to do a load rescue. They were in a bind so we agreed to handle it. They had been pegging the guy via the QC for hours and had not recieved a response.
Our team found them in a rest area sleeping. In a case like that, one doesn't know if there is a health issue or a host of other items that could have been involved. These weren't responsible drivers. They were tired and decided to stop without notifying anyone. They thought they would deliver the next day without a care in the world.
It was good they stopped there rather than kill someone, but their carelessness resulted in a alot of worry and effort on other folks part.
This kind of stuff goes on all the time regardless of the company.
There are always room for improvements, but as professionals, I wouldn't get too wrapped up in the small stuff. Stay focused on the bigger picture and look for the ways to correct or deal with issues.
With the sheer size of Panther's fleet, I think it is safe to say there are many that are successful within their ranks. I would seek those out and see how they are operating verses what you may or may not be doing if you are feeling challenged or frustrated.

That number is 340. Sorry about that.

You should not have given yourself a positive rating. You could go blind from doing and then how would you drive?

I did not and am not calling you stupid so there's no need to include that in your signature. I am pointing out that a very small percentage of drivers and owners are _______. (Fill in the blank with stupid or whatever term you like to represent the fact they don't give a you know what about the job they do or anything else.)

Certainly you should care about being paid, but not exclusively. Being on time, being courteous, being presentable, and being well spoken with customers and peers are among the other things one should be concerned with. One of my teams took a load from Tampa to West Point. They presented themselves to the customer on time in a courteous and well prepared manner. The customer specifically requested they return the repaired item when ready if at all possible. Their 1200 mile run turned into 2400 miles, all with good fsc, because they cared about more than where was the money.

Hi again,
it is sad to see the number of complaints, and down grading the company we work for or with, to me there is not a bad company, we drive, we are dedicated, we do our best staying away from home and family, with a pouropoise of making an honest living, and yet we are not happy, there are a number of situations that lead to our fate and dissapoinments, do we have what it take to continue in bussiness? or we can easely blame the dispatchers or some one else? I have been in this scenario for over 15 years, and I can easily blame others for my lack of knowledge and bussiness descitions, Am I doing the rigth thing? after leveling my descitions and find out if it is right or wrong, I do not have any body to blame, but to myself. We the expeditting O/O, or drivers have to stop and think, Is it my fault or some one else's. On the other hand, I talked to upper level management and suggested the following scenario:
Give me one of your dispatchers to drive with me for two weeks, let him or her get the real feeling of the situations we drivers going through, some of them are fresh people out of a college, they do not understand what is to be waithing for a load after a great number of hours, they do not know what we going thru in a -20 degrees weather, they complete their shift and go home to a cozy enviroment, and there are so many moore things that we drivers go and experience in the road do they know abou life otr?. The answer I got was: A good way to think, we will consider. Any way my appologies if I offend any one, I think if we all get togheter and some how demostrate to the company we are working for that we are the hub that drive them, make or brake it,they shoul consider and have an attitude adjustment. I feel that we deserve attention and respect, after all, if we all quit the company they will be just a name, and no more trips to France for the family.
Best regards and respect.
Juan Rivera. (P.S. I am not responding to a post, just do not know how to start a post).
