Paul,

I'm still only a company driver and my company doesn't seem to care about DH costs, so I'm probably biased but why stay there that long?

Why not take a loss 2 weeks ago and get out of there? Wouldn't losing $300 in fuel or whatever 2 weeks ago to get out of there and get back east to make money been worthwhile?

I know you did some family visiting in there, so I'm not sure how that figures in, I'm mostly just curious.

It wasn't 2 weeks straight, I had the load to Vegas in there. I stayed for so long after because there really is no reason they should not have been able to get a decent load and I expected they would come through considering I am paying them to do so. It wasn't like I was sitting in Death Valley, I am right outside LA and others were getting loads out. I would've taken any loads that paid a reasonable rate even if they were not getting me back east. I looked at the situation and figured I am with a decent size company and there is no reason to lose all that fuel money to get back to TX. If you notice some of the other former Bolt drivers said they always got loads out, I figured wrong. The visiting with my brother never impacted anything since it was done in the TA parking lot, he is a truck driver.

Most manufacturers recommend replacement at 100k because they are belts now instead of chains. They like to make parts that wear out, they are good for business.

Toyota/Scion uses a timing chain, not belt on it 1.5 litre 4 cyl.
I thought, stupidly that a timing chain would be trouble free for the life of the engine. There is a service bulletin out on these engines, too bad Toyota doesn't stand by it's products anymore.

Also, Paul I have heard they use belts cause they decrease drag on the engine which increases gas mileage and our also quieter. But in my opinion, have always been the weak link in a interference engine(the ones where if the belt breaks the valves meet the pistons) Honda for example.

I would think a chain should be trouble free as well, they must be out of practice.

I have had timing chains break on U.S. made engines. I have yet to hear of a timing chain that would not break. What I am missing here?

They break less often then a timing belt, or so I thought.... anyways mine didn't break it failed messing up the variable valve timing of the double overhead cam engine.

Less than a belt to be sure. I lost a belt on a Pontiac Tempest. Overhead cam 6, 230HP. The fire was something to see. HOT gasses into to fuel, WOW!

Picked up in Northern Georgia last night @ 20:00 and headed up thru the Nantahala and picked up 129 to Deal's Gap .... and ran The Tail of the Dragon  on the west side of the park, dropping in Florence, KY @ 04:23 (about 10 minutes earlier than the GPS had predicted at departure )

.... and then rolled home for a quick oil change, laundry, etc. :D

Glad it wasn't snowin' ....

That is a nice route, but probably you couldn't see much at night.

Still in Connecticut. Woke up this morning with a nice 9" or so (and still growing) crack in the windshield. (It was not there when we went to bed last night) Went out of service to get it fixed. The shops here are so backed up due to the snowstorm, they won't be able to get to it till in the morning. The TA here is just packed with people. Everyone is saying this is about the only place around that (still) has power. Locals are coming in to take showers, and the gas lines are long. One lady described driving here through the local streets as "a war zone". Downed trees and powerlines everywhere. Hope to be back in service tomorrow.

Jim,

You don't need a shop to get glass. Call Safelite ...

Windshield Repair and Auto Glass Replacement - Safelite AutoGlass

I went back in service at 8am this morning, had a load to Wooster, Oh by 815 ..... here's hoping the rest of the week is as easy!

Additional: Not sure who your owner has insurance coverage with, but many policies have windshield replacement as a part of it.

Landstar does.

They are coming out to fix it in the morning. Most places here don't have power and aren't even open. Called three other places before even getting ahold of anyone.
