Good, bad, or indifferent on Obama, he did have ribs down on Beale street last month in Memphis.

This is my problem with Obama. He didn't need to wear a Lapel pin of the flag to show he was Patrotic. He Didn't feel the need to Put his hand on his heart during the national Anthem. His wife said in a speech that this was the 1st time in her adult life that she was proud of her country. So just what do they stand for?... I don't feel it is for our best interest as Americans. For me This is the First election that I would like to vote for none of the above and have them start over.

OK guys got to tell you that you are wrong about the ribs part.

There are Muslims that eat pork, same with some Jews. A lot of them don't follow their religion as strictly as they should and many who don't eat pork, don't even follow the Halal rituals in buying and preparing foods. It is a bit more complicated than Kosher processing by the way.

I know of a few Muslims who eat anything, I mean anything and may be in Memphis at joebob's furniture emporium and BBQ restaurant eating some ribs as I am typing.

Also you know Babs really hit on a point that I wish others would pick up on.Obama's wife made a speech in which she said that Obama is the only one to fix America's soul.

"In 2008, we are still a nation that is too divided. We live in isolation, and because of that isolation, we fear one another. We don't know our neighbors, we don't talk, we believe our pain is our own. We don't realize that the struggles and challenges of all of us are the same. We are too isolated. And we are still a nation that is still too cynical. We look at it as "them" and "they" as opposed to "us". We don't engage because we are still too cynical. ...

Americans are not in debt because they live frivolously but because someone got sick. Even with insurance, the deductibles and the premiums are so high that people are still putting medications and treatments on credit cards. And they can't get out from under. I could go on and on, but this is how we're living, people, in 2008.

And things have gotten progressively worse throughout my lifetime, through Democratic and Republican administrations, it hasn't gotten better for regular folks. ....

We have lost the understanding that in a democracy, we have a mutual obligation to one another -- that we cannot measure the greatness of our society by the strongest and richest of us, but we have to measure our greatness by the least of these. That we have to compromise and sacrifice for one another in order to get things done. That is why I am here, because Barack Obama is the only person in this who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation."

I am sorry Obama supporters, I am worried about something here. I worked with a bunch of Iranians at the Pharma company and we had many political discussions, especially about Iran and what they say about us. These people repeated one thing that really didn't bother me until I looked around after I was out of there; "we are a nation of broken souls and we have to fix our souls first before anything else". But I also heard this later on and if you read the speeches of some of the Muslim leaders who are against us, then you will see that they are talking that our souls are broken.

Is there a correlation here? I don't know but I can say this - every time we have a potential first lady in the running, things get furthered blurred and people get too emotional.

Hey...."don't shoot the messenger"

I just said he had ribs in Memphis.

I have to admit, I am with Barb. I'm not sold on any of my choices. There are problems with all of them.

Dave,

I would rather send some good pork ribs your way but I don't have space for the BBQ pit on the truck.

We really have no choice, I would rather see Hillary win the nomination, I can't vote for McCain for a lot of reasons and none of the independents really have it together enough to make a showing.

But my hope is this;

Nader decides to really run hard.

Obama takes the nomination.

Nader siphons off the dems votes again,

McCain wins.

I know I said I would not vote for McCain but that's beside my point. If Nader runs and does the same thing he did in 2000 and 2004, then the Dems will have a hard time internally with the 2012 election and possibly with the Congress.

I think every conservative and like minded person who thinks that Obama is wrong for the country, should send $25 or even $50 to Nader so he would run.

We never had the understanding that democracy means having a mutual obligation of any kind whatsoever. Democracy doesn't mean mutual obligation. Socialism does, tho. Utopiansim does.

Communism 101

"That we have to compromise and sacrifice for one another in order to get things done."

Communism 102 With "we" meaning, "you".

Getting things done is nothing more than a matter of cooperation. Getting things equal is a matter of compromise and sacrifice.

"That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation."

That's right out of the Koran, true enough, but its use here in the US during a political campaign can be very effective on the poor, the weak, and (Ta-Da!) the disenfranchised. So far he's running on Hope and Faith, mainly Hope that he can make things better for those who need things better, and Faith in him to be the one to do it. His supporters exhibit blind faith.

That's scary to many people, especially those who want to find, and therefore do find, an Islam connection with Obama. Catch 'em with Hope, reel e'm in with Faith, and then open the door for lost soul conversion to Islam. They think he's either a closet Muslim just waiting to take power before unmasking himself, that he's a "Manchurian Candidate" sent by the Muslims to seize power and change the world, or worse, that he was born a Muslim, and therefore will always be a Muslim, and his Muslim brethren will not let him forget that.

I don't think he's even particularly religious. He's calculating, though. He's very calculating. There is nothing in the public record that he's ever given Islam a second's thought as an adult. His name being Hussein doesn't make him Muslim any more than someone named David makes them a Jew. He has an image that he wants to present to the world, and Islam is not part of that image, despite his middle name. Neither is Christianity, for that matter. The only thing that will be unmasked if he takes power is his radical liberalism.

He attends a church (The Trinity United Church of Christ), that church in particular, which establishes his bona fide authenticity as an African American more than fulfilling any spiritual need he might have. <snort> Attending that church in particular, out of all the churches in the land, gives him credibility as an African American, and credibility from the poorest of the poor, the blackest of the black, and the most severely disenfranchised (real or imagined). But he doesn't talk about his church much. Only when it benefits him to do so. He doesn't have to talk about it much. Those who revere him for the church he attends will revere him whether he talks about it or not. Done. He talks about Hope and Change, and does so in a way that you have to have Faith in him to make it so. It's all very calculating.

Islam plays no part in leftist, liberal politics. Never has, never will. Just the opposite. This is a man who has been conveniently absent, or has voted merely "Present" on key or controversial legislation, in order to hide just how far to the left he really is and what his true politics are. People that hate him for being Muslim are so far off the mark as to be laughable. They dig deep for a Muslim connection, and lo and behold they find it (shocking!), even though there's not a shred of evidence to back any of it up. It's all conjecture and assumption based on assumptions. Look at his record. Look at his record!

His devotion to Islam goes no deeper than his devotion to Christianity. His "devotion" to Christianity is nothing more than a calculated devotion to craft a political image. Religious zealotry, be it Islam, Christianity or Judaism, is not the mark of the political left, and he's far to the left of even Hillary. That's why Hillary hasn't been able to criticize him on his policies, she's left with running on experience, instead. Her policies and his policies are the same, except he's even more Socialist than she is. Look at his record, not at the absurd and utterly laughable accusations that he's some kind of closet Muslim, or an Islamic sleeper ready to be awakened by a video message from Osama bin Laden.

McCain's a grouchy old man. At his age, he has every right to be a grouchy old man, but I don't want a grouchy old man's finger on the button, just the same. Ralph Nader is even older and grouchier than McCain. Plus, plus!, Nader's parents were immigrants from Lebanon. Do we really want an actual Arab-American for president? And a grouchy old Arab-American, at that? <giggle>
