We never had the understanding that democracy means having a mutual obligation of any kind whatsoever. Democracy doesn't mean mutual obligation. Socialism does, tho. Utopiansim does.

Getting things
done is nothing more than a matter of cooperation. Getting things
equal is a matter of compromise and sacrifice.

That's right out of the Koran, true enough, but its use here in the US during a political campaign can be very effective on the poor, the weak, and (Ta-Da!) the disenfranchised. So far he's running on Hope and Faith, mainly Hope that he can make things better for those who need things better, and Faith in him to be the one to do it. His supporters exhibit blind faith.
That's scary to many people, especially those who want to find, and therefore do find, an Islam connection with Obama. Catch 'em with Hope, reel e'm in with Faith, and then open the door for lost soul conversion to Islam. They think he's either a closet Muslim just waiting to take power before unmasking himself, that he's a "Manchurian Candidate" sent by the Muslims to seize power and change the world, or worse, that he was born a Muslim, and therefore will always be a Muslim, and his Muslim brethren will not let him forget that.
I don't think he's even particularly religious. He's calculating, though. He's very calculating. There is nothing in the public record that he's ever given Islam a second's thought as an adult. His name being Hussein doesn't make him Muslim any more than someone named David makes them a Jew. He has an image that he wants to present to the world, and Islam is not part of that image, despite his middle name. Neither is Christianity, for that matter. The only thing that will be unmasked if he takes power is his radical liberalism.
He attends a church (The Trinity United Church of Christ),
that church in particular, which establishes his bona fide authenticity as an African American more than fulfilling any spiritual need he might have. <snort> Attending
that church in particular, out of all the churches in the land, gives him credibility as an African American, and credibility from the poorest of the poor, the blackest of the black, and the most severely disenfranchised (real or imagined). But he doesn't talk about his church much. Only when it benefits him to do so. He doesn't have to talk about it much. Those who revere him for the church he attends will revere him whether he talks about it or not. Done. He talks about Hope and Change, and does so in a way that you have to have Faith in him to make it so. It's all very calculating.
Islam plays no part in leftist, liberal politics. Never has, never will. Just the opposite. This is a man who has been conveniently absent, or has voted merely "Present" on key or controversial legislation, in order to hide just how far to the left he really is and what his true politics are. People that hate him for being Muslim are so far off the mark as to be laughable. They dig deep for a Muslim connection, and lo and behold they find it (shocking!), even though there's not a shred of evidence to back any of it up. It's all conjecture and assumption based on assumptions. Look at his record. Look at his record!
His devotion to Islam goes no deeper than his devotion to Christianity. His "devotion" to Christianity is nothing more than a calculated devotion to craft a political image. Religious zealotry, be it Islam, Christianity or Judaism, is not the mark of the political left, and he's far to the left of even Hillary. That's why Hillary hasn't been able to criticize him on his policies, she's left with running on experience, instead. Her policies and his policies are the same, except he's even more Socialist than she is. Look at his record, not at the absurd and utterly laughable accusations that he's some kind of closet Muslim, or an Islamic sleeper ready to be awakened by a video message from Osama bin Laden.
