I've had the Rand McNally Truckers atlass for years. Its spiral bound, pages are laminated, plus it has exploded maps of the major cities.

I've got an 05 Rand McNally Truckers Trucker's Atlas that I've opened up like 3 times. I use a Garmin GPS for 95% of everything, Streets & Trips for when I want a more Atlas-like overview of things, and Google Maps and Google Navigator. I also use PC Miler along with the others to check things when the Garmin routing looks funny.

If you drive a truck, the truckers atlas is invaluable: low overpasses, info on every state [phone numbers for whatever current info you might need], different regs in each state, etc.
If you drive a 4 wheeler, any atlas is good, though laminated holds up better against the inevitable spills, lol.
PS If you're a fan of WalMart, their atlas has every store in the country listed. It's not laminated, but only costs $5. :)
PPS The Next Exit is worth it's weight in platinum, IMO: everything [hotels, gas restaurants, & "other" {malls, grocery stores, auto parts, vets, etc} including WalMart within a mile or two of every exit on every interstate.] RV [and straight truck] friendly places are in red ink, and rest areas and weigh stations are listed by mile marker.

AND to be off topic, some walmarts have the Next Exit and the truck stop guides for sale.

Is The Next Exit a book? Sounds like a wealth of info

One thing I hate about my TomTom is that it doesn't have any Walmarts listed in it. It seems as if TomTom tried to get money from Walmart for a premium ad listing, didn't get any, so they said F U Walmart.

I'm surprised they sold it @ Walmart considering.

The Next Exit is a book, it is available in Flying J's, it is really detailed. If you have an Android phone you can download the DAT app which finds truck stops, rest areas, and Walmarts based off of your current location.

Figures, I have the world's dumbest smartphone with no good aps. It's so annoying to read App only available on Iphone or Droid. I don't even have flash.

I don't know why I made a technology purchase based on a women's recommendation  palm pre ugh

I like my Rand McNally, laminated, spiral bound atlas. I mark pick up locations, so I have a visual aid of possible freight locations.

Paul, what's the DAT app. I can't seem to find it in the app market.

Turtle got you taken care of, there is also Truck Smart for TA's and Petro, and Loves Connect. Pilot is still behind and only has their app for the iPhone.

Just a note, someone mentioned MS Streets and Trips. There is a overlay for it from Truck Stops Plus

Welcome to Truck Stops Plus

It's $40., u get it downloaded. It installs over S&T, shows all truckstops, walmarts, truck washes, etc. Has a host of other features. More useful to straight trucks and semi's, but between it and my GPS, I've finally stopped using my atlas moast of the time.

Yeah, if you're in a van the Wal-Mart Rand McNally Road Atlas is the way to go. I buy a new one every other year.
