My own authority...

I evidently posted this question in the wrong place - over there where all the newby bashers are - so I'll try here.

I'm getting ready to file for my own authority. I will be filing my single state registration (SSR) with the state of Texas and know I will have to have a NY HUT, comply with New Mexico and Oregon weight and mileage registrations. The SSR includes 38 states. What happens in the states not covered in the SSR? I have searched the individual states DOT and DMV web sites, but they don't offer much information other than oversize/overweight permitting.

Thanks for any info on this or maybe a point in the right direction.

If you are entering that state you will have to buy a permit(at scales) to drive in it ,if its not on your SSR.

Well as far I understand it, when you get your plates you will list all the states that you will drive in and what %, if you don't have previous year info they have fourmulas to figure it all out. You can have all 48 states + canada on there for not much more. Besides that you'll need indivudaul state permits, Michigian PUC, Kentucky, New York Hut, Colorado, New Mexico if over 26,000, etc. It gets expensive.

Thanks for the reply, Roadkill. That's what I was thinking, just wanted to confirm with someone else.

And thanks for your reply, magicone.

I guess by now everyone knows the Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) mandated by the federal government is going to take over the SSRS effective January 1, 2007. I've read some states are already asking for an extension to 2008. I was hoping the new UCR would clear everything up for all states for all drivers, but I guess that is wishful thinking!

Thanks again and be safe,
