You will love the credit union. They are much better then banks.I have been using credit unions for over 15 years now.
No point in quoting it again, especially since it was brought into this thread from the outside specifically to use as ammunition for a confrontation. You confronted, he answered, and that wasn't good enough for you, you had to tell him want he really meant. What is your problem? Why must you persist in confronting the individual, rather than adding something of substance to a conversation - you know, staying on-topic? We wouldn't be having this conversation at all if you knew how to stay on topic. So far, you've added zero to this topic. Nothing.
No, it's not. OVM's post wasn't exactly front page news, and it sparked conversation all on its own, that's the difference. You simply try to invent ways to confront someone, to try and "best" them, and it's getting tiresome. You know the rest. What's good for the goose.............well, you know the rest.

Seriously. It wasn't even front page news in Rapid City.Wasn't exactly front page news, seriously?
You mean the post you quoted to use as a confrontational tool? That post? It doesn't matter whether that thread was started from a front page news article or not (despite it being front page news on many news outlets). What matters is you used it specifically to confront someone. This whole good for the goose good for the gander crap is nothing more than trying to confront someone to get one over on them, to best them, to try and cause friction. That's trolling, and it's getting almost as old as you trying to justify it.Either was the post where I got your quote from. Nice try.
On topic: my favorite bank defense of the new charge for using a debit card: "We have to replace the money Congress took away somehow."
Except the money was 'excessive profits' - not exactly digging into their operating capital...
Every time a particularly egregious practice of the banks is reined in [subtracting debits first thing in the morning, adding deposits/credits last thing in the same day, allowing many 'overdraft' fees to be imposed], they just come up with new ones to keep gouging the people who can least afford it. No fees for maintaining a very healthy minimum in a checking account, just for those who don't have that much money to spare. [Personal note: I've been charged a $35.00 overdraft fee for a $0.30 fee on more than one occasion!]
It's predatory capitalism: people are pretty much forced to rely on banks to transform a paper check or electronic order into actual cash - we can complain about the charges, but we really can't choose to avoid them. Credit unions are an option for some, but not all, [many are restricted to a specific group of people], and finding a less predatory bank is no guarantee they won't be bought by one of the 'big names', either.
Congress has allowed regulations that favor the banks, rather than the people, because Congress isn't impacted by the rules - they never pay overdraft charges to their 'private' banking system, right? And the 'people' don't have high powered [and effective] lobbyists, so we're easy to ignore.
The whole banking system is corrupt, and has been for many years.
Nothing wrong with posting a "General Interest" type article...that "might" appeal to different members....In an attempt to stimulate conversation at different levels....just doing my J.O.B.
When you pile enough mole hills on top of each other, you've got a mountain. You're still trying to justify using a quote from another thread as a confrontational tool. And no, I didn't say the above was SPAM or trolling, I said your constant confrontational postings and trying to best someone is trolling, and it is, because it's specifically designed to cause friction to elicit an emotional response. You've still added zero to this thread, other than confrontational trolling and the lame attempt to justify it. My advice to you is to drop the confrontations, and get on-topic. It's advice I highly recommend you take.Sure, I don't necessarily disagree with that but we have someone in here pointing out to other members that if they post something without an opininion, comment, likes or dislikes of said article posted, do you agree or disagree with the article and why or why not, it is considered to be SPAM or trolling.
With this particular post of yours, without any comment, was an appropriate time to repeat that statement.
But, as usual, someone with a perpetual hard on for me, just couldn't resist making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I disagree with the charges.....
You disagree with the banks adding charges(fees)to its customers or you disagree with our Government setting limits on certain fees?
Government involvement....let competition drive the fees..
{Off-topic text deleted. - Turtle}
Bank of America wouldn't even exist if it weren't for us, the taxpayer bailing them out. By the Government doing what they did, they have exposed these fees. With the transparency of these fees people can now make a decision to either live with the fees or look for other alternatives. I hope all BoA customers leave and let this bank fold like they should've in the first place.
BTW OVM, read turtles response, it was a good one. If you think for one moment that these banks can't offer debit card services for no more than .24 cents and still make money off of it, you're gullible. These banks are passing their sins onto the customer, simple as that!
Government involvement....let competition drive the fees..
Only problem with favoring competition is that given the sophistication and resources of the banking industry [among many others], the real competition is in keeping customers from making valid comparisons, because too many factors are unknown. The aforementioned practice of assigning debits and credits to accounts is one example of what we didn't know, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
I'm sure a large number of consumers would prefer to avoid dealing with a bank operated by any of the individuals responsible for the many failed banks that have populated the news for the past few years, but how do we know where they are? Banks, like other companies, change their names and are bought, sold, and merged every day - we have no real idea who we're doing business with, when going outside the few big names [and we don't know enough about them, either.]
Competition assumes knowledge we don't have and can't get, to be valid, but neither the banks nor the media [that relies on advertising revenue to exist] is sharing it with us.

Sometimes I get confused...55 years dealing in a 5 bank system....There is no mom and pop banks in Canada like here...
