Do you have a Sam's account? If you do, Sam's Master Card by Synchrony Bank offers 5% back on gas at any gas stations except Costco, but they have a limit of $6000 yearly.

We each run our own small businesses. One must look at saving money where we can. Especially if banks will pay us HARD $$ just for the consumption of goods & services.

I use a credit card for everything especially online purchases. If I get hacked (it’s happened once), it’s not my money it’s the banks and they are responsible for covering any losses. I never use my own money or a debit card other than for withdrawing cash.
My .02 cents (paid by cash back rewards)

I feel like this thread is being hijacked. This is VALUABLE info! I'll start a new thread today ..

Sent from my VS987 using EO Forums mobile app

It sounds to me like you're both fiscally responsible..key is paying it off when you get that charge bill completely! And I love the cash and carry thought too. It sure is nice NOT to be in debt!! :)
Griz ... no need to start a new thread .. its March locations & Banter ..lol .. We post locations , poke at each other , generally let it flow thread , we kind of Police ourselves here .. lol. Different business strategies kind of blend together to give us different views ..

OK, here's a different view .....

No need to EVER worry about being hacked or having your personal information compromised. Say, what now ...!?
No need to worry about it ... because it's already been breached! If the Equifax fiasco didn't already prove it, I'm not sure what will. The Russians, North Koreans, etc .... all the cyber criminals ... already have all of our personal data. In their infinite wisdom, the geniuses that created the internet & all of these systems forgot about security.

At this point the best one can do is what scottm4211 referred to .... monitor it regularly & if suspicious activity is detected .. report it. The bank will take care of it. About once or twice a year, my PenFed card gets blocked while I'm trying to fuel up. Always seems to happen at 2 am when it's like 10 degrees outside. It'll get blocked because they'll see charges in like 6 different states within a 24 hr period & say ... hey, what the hell is going on!? A simple phone call to their security dept clears it up.

PenFed ...? What is that? The Pentagon Federal Credit Union. My card is a PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa. Pentagon? Sounds like it's related to the military ... you would be right! Sounds like I need to be a vet or have some previous military affiliation to belong to that group .... incorrect. I am not a vet. By doing some simple research I found out that an application + a $15 membership fee & I was in! We have had 2 credit cards for 5+ yrs, refinanced our home & our son financed a used car, which has been subsequently paid off ..... all while enjoying the benefits of The Pentagon Federal Credit Union :D

Heck, my wife isn't even a citizen! She's from the last generation of true Soviets, has a Ukrainian passport - defected to Ukraine before jumping the pond - has no real desire to become a citizen, has a credit score in the low 800s & wonders why it's so low, took a class in high school on how to shoot, disassemble, clean & reassemble an AK47 - true story - on Fri night she can put on a LBD, on Sat morning she can be in the garden tending to cucumbers .... AND she's a well respected member of .... wait for it ..... The Pentagon Federal Credit Union!! Only in Amerika!
LOL o_O:eek::D

I'm not totally apposed to cashback offers. Obviously, there are some situations where financially minded people can take advantage of this without having to pay the ridiculous interest rates and fees. Although, in the same breath, one unexpected slip up or sudden loss of income, can quickly find you at their high rate mercy by having to carry a balance. That's the biggest thing I don't like, and something that doesn't happen when using cash.

That said, the last few weeks I've been toying with getting a Amazon Prime card.
The main reasoning for me is whenever possible, I buy everything from Amazon already.

What they offer.
No fee. $70 cash bonus on sign up and 5% cashback on Amazon purchases.
Also 2% back at restaurants. drug stores and Gas stations.
1% for everything else.

I mainly want it for the 5%, kind of wish I had it last year as I racked up a lot of purchases.

Only hitch is you need to be a Prime member $99 year. Which I already am, so as much as I use Amazon, it seems like a no-brainer. But yet I hesitate
