well said m'dear. and spoken by many who have sat in their vehicles all weekend hoping for that long elusive load. You get a lot of time to think things through. :)

"should" being the operative word.....The Economy has made shippers more budget wise on thier costs...over time since the economy went south...they've learned a lot...and that has cost us loads...scheduling of parts production is also more flexible, another machine can quickly be changed over to make up any shortfall in numbers....and so on....They are working smarter....what once was, isn't anymore....carriers have to be very careful when looking at forecasts and projections.....an increase in production does not always result in a spike of activity for our business....as witnessed in the last year....

Very true. Projections have more relevance on truckload and rail than they do on expedite. As always expedite is the VERY hard to predict animal.

Good Morning from Cool Sunny SE Pa....1st cup of coffee is brewing now...

As for the economy...I just got a text message (not 5 minutes ago) from a friend who works for a major "supplier" to most of the major auto manufacturers that assemble product here. They are located in Mid TN and for the most part I'd say ALOT of us have picked up there and delivered there and the city is one that a few of us will layover in if we are close. The company is big business...they just postedand notified all employees, "all 3 shifts" have had hours cut to 7 a day...and NO OT until further notice....

Any "blips" we see towards an uptick, are just that, blips...they will come and go and the economic #'s will raise and fall with them....no one in the government is being honest about unemployment #'s and the "production" #'s are cooked. Each month they come out and then the "revisions" appear the next 2 weeks...the inflation #'s are bs..what food cost and energy cost are static and have no bearing on how people have to budget or spend their money?

I don't think for a moment anyone that pays any attention to whats happening really believes our economy is getting better...we react to "our situations" and yes there are segments of the economy that have improved and will continue and there are people making good money...but on a whole...not so much...

Agreed..when you see manufacturing is up 4% a natural course is they have to ship that 4%....in truckload or LTL....expedite may not see 1 load out of that increase...
All reports say assembly lines are running full tilt....in the olden days we'd be running our butts off...Parts now fit multiple models....parts makers have keyed in....

Dennis....the length of this downturn has also taught companies how to run lean....make more parts, use less people...use expedite less...

IMO ..based on what I see and read.....I can't see any extended spring spike....IF there is one it will be short lived and sporatic the same as we are seeing now .....there is more then enough capacity at least in the van segment to cover the loads between the Alliance....and the Alliance does not even included Panther/LEA/Fedex....

Unloading the show booth, and attempting to put the van back together. I have a feeling that this will take a week or so to get everything back to where I want it.

she sick again jenny ?

They found that the cancer is throughout her entire body. She has pneumonia and fluid around her heart now. They put her in icu earlier today. Once we are done at home we are headed to Lansing to more than likely say our goodbyes.

Freight is a VERY odd thing indeed. Last week was a new record for our truckload division. Right now we have one straight truck in Florida over 24 hours waiting. Other than that not one straight truck sitting over 7 hours. Sprinters sitting everywhere for much longer????? Freight and customers are not slow, but little truck freight sure is?????????
