Great ideas here, of course some will always be over the top. I personally am against sleeping in a lounge area, if you want to nap go out to your truck. Definitely no cloth furniture, that gets nasty fast. The headphones on the surface sound great but I would be very hesitant to put them on my head after being worn by 50 other drivers in various stages of clean. Love the treadmill elliptical idea!

Shore power? I thought we were talking about a drivers lounge not a truck lounge, but it would be a great idea for some parking areas in the future.

Build it and they will come.

Speaking of a Baseball Hat...maybe a wall mounted 'Locked Display Case" with the different Load 1 apparel that is available and order forms close......I know i plan on spending more money on shirts and 'stuff" this spring...

We are getting ready to start work on a new driver's area at our terminal. Looking for ideas for things a driver would want or would be helpful. Things you have seen that were great, and great ideas that did not work.

Thanks!

How about a locked glass display case of trophy's from drivers who have switched over from other carriers. You can put your unused bolt shirt in there, Chef and OVM can hang his shorts up in the display case.

When I worked at restaurants on the run some guy came over from gourmet shuttle and they hung his old uniform on the office wall and would point to it and laugh from time to time!

Now we all know that every good "lounge" has a great bar (bottoms up!!!) and Wednesday night should be "Ladies Night" complete with an all male revue of the Chippendales or the Boys from down under. Friday night could be "Guys Night Out with free beer and well drinks and barmaids wearing nothing but.......

Just a suggestion. LOL

I agree some of this stuff is over the top.

If I was gonna build a drivers lounge I would build 2 full showers with enough room to actually move around in complete with a large counter and sink and toilet. A separate women and men bathrooms. And hire a cleaning crew to come in every other night to come clean the place up. A Laundry facility with 2 washers and 2 dryers free of charge ( must bring your own laundry detergent ) or have some in the vending machine for sale. I would purchase 2 soda machines with Coke and Pepsi brand sodas and a snack machine that way you could stock it yourself and potential make a little profit off the items sold. 2 single cup coffee makers that the driver can make their own coffee for free instead of making a full pot and it may go to waste. A working telephone that will make free local calls.

I would then put 5 comfy Lazy Boy recliners and maybe a sectional sofa in the TV room. Buy a nice 40+ inch tv with premium channels or possibly make 2 tv rooms for people who like sports in one room and people who like the news or other shows in the other. 2 boxes of fresh doughnuts every morning.

Personally I wouldn't add a work out facility. If the driver wants to work out they can get a national gym membership.

Why would there be any need for a bunk area? Doesn't everyone bring their own [van/truck] with them?
It would be different if the truck were going to be off limits for the day, as it is in the shop - but that's not why you're there, is it?

Ironically, I have to agree with Cheri on this one..Why is so many expecting so much from John when he has already done somuch for us? Besides,it is hard to get used to a un-familiar bed when one gets used to his own!!!

Guys everything sounds great and John Elliott is one GREAT GUY. John cares about his drivers. I will say this, when Tricia and I drove up to meet John about eight months agoin Taylor. Mi I tried to see if John was all about making money. Yes, John likes to make make money but not at the cost of taking it from his Owner Operators. Being an outside agent for Load1 for a few months until I had to step down for personal reasons. John is one of the GREATEST friends I know. Even after I stepped down as a agent John has helped me with the lease on our new building in Medina, Ohio.

John see the big picture and if more carriers thought like John did everyone would be happy.
