Laredo

Our company has some connections down in Laredo, TX and in the past hasn't had an issue bringing freight out of there with our normal rates. Over the last six months or so, we have been under bid quite often and sometimes by alarming amounts.

Are you guys still moving out of Laredo consistently? Are you having to take rate cuts to get out? I hate being under-bid but I do not want to contribute the rate drop.

If discussing rates is frowned upon just let me know. I am knew around here.

I have only gotten 2 loads out of Laredo in 4 years. One was too big to fit inside my van and the other cancelled right after I made it to the shipper. I have never had any luck in Laredo ever. I usually just deadhead right on out of there.

Laredo can be rough on vans, but not quite as bad with a straight, especially with a team truck.

I would agree with Charles. See a lot more freight for straights and semis than I do vans. Many of the smaller loads can be found but companies take several at a time.

I taking the advice so many in here gave me , when u get to Laraedo,,get some sleep, and get out,,yes its dead head, but at least im not sitting there 7 or 10 days , im in a cv, so it aint worth it to stay and listen to all the itchen from other nitwits in the parking lot,,,its tough enough to keep a good attitude as it is ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,amen?

In the past i would give dispatch 36 hrs to get me out of anywhere, including Laredo (i now give dispatch 48 hrs because I am with a company that pays me to sit that long to give them a chance) now that doesn't include any weekends...

Yes I have DH'd out of Laredo, but more often, I was loaded out and the big thing about getting loaded out of Laredo is that most of those loads are going to be for a long distance and you are going to make money when you get out...

Yea I DH out and when I do it is most often up to Dallas/FW, San Antonio, our Houston, I have only DH'd out of Houston 1 time, any other time I have been loaded out of those cities...

There is nothing wrong with going to Laredo, the key is knowing how your company does getting you out of TEXAS, not just Laredo..

One other thing to keep in mind is how freoght works coming into the border towns of Texas and Ariz from Mexico....

Any freight that comes in after Fri, chances are is not going to clear customs until Monday...then it can be a day or to to get into the scheduling system to get out....you can drop Fri and you might wait till tues or weds to get a load, but again, chances are it is going to be a long run and pay well...

There is nothing wrong with going to Laredo or any of the border towns...the wrong part is sitting for 6-10 days....

I've only went to Laredo once for Bolt Express. Delivered in the early evening, had a shower and they called and offered a load back to just north of Bowling Green Kentucky if I wanted to wait until the following afternoon to pick up. I accepted.:p

I havent been down to Laredo in awhile, but I've gone to Pharr TX,but then I got a load to Eagle Pass to Chattanooga TN. I have a friend who is leased on with Prestige. He gets to Laredo and back up to the Wolverine no problem. Amazing carriers that do broker loads, other carriers cant get....

I had one of those crazy loads. Loaded in Augusta ga, went to Ft Lauder dale airport. Picked up in Orlando fl one pallet to El Paso, dropped dead headed to Laredo (long way) pickup for Detroit Mi. Good round, probably never see that again in a million years. Long week.

Well, Laredo has good and bad. Last year after Hurricane Alex destroyed the roads from Monterey to Laredo, I sat and sat and sat during July. (Along with the rest of the vans who got stuck down there.)

But, right now, our company can't keep a van there. When I arrive for a delivery, if I'm not pre-loaded, I get to sleep as fast as I can because I'm probably headed out of there by the afternoon.

Any van driver who has restricted driving hours can only get loads within 16 hours from Laredo, right? So that becomes another problem. That's why weekends are so much better. Texas is just too big (and, as a resident, I LOVE IT!!!!)

I complain when it is slow and pray for sleep when it is busy. It changes all the time.

My last load out of Laredo took me to El Paso paid over $1.00 a mile then from El Paso to Taylor paid over a Dollar...and they were NLM automotive loads.....

Oh. and while I sat in Laredo before the trip to El Paso, I did a 9 mile Laredo to Laredo....another automotive load, but not NLM, amd you really don't want to know what that paid....:)

Haha. It makes me laugh when I call a driver for a really short load and they turn it down before they even find out what I can pay.

Thanks for the information. I guess we must just be running into more competition down there. Seems some of you are running well out of there and that is good news.

Not a Laredo run, and not a thread hijack. But in responce to the above...

3 runs in 3 day in the new van....just over 1850 miles, just over $2200.00 The one I am on now is to Fla...

Good Stuff. Business has picked up rather nicely here too. Hopefully we are getting into that Summer swing.

Could be, maybe the cause of that "50K a year, is it worth it?" crap I read a while back.
