Talked to a Landshark guy yesterday morning, and he showed me their board full of truckload freight at truckload rates, including .59¢ surcharge, even for vans. Then he showed me how, because of their freight volume, you could chain loads from city to city, pretty much non-stop. Every load he pulled up was over $3/mile, of which he gets 62% + the .59 surcharge. He doesn't get a reduced rate because he's a van, but the full rate. And this wasn't the overflow board, but the regular board with loads more freight.

They're printing money over there at Landshark.

That is realistic money for a van bare min for a S/T if they can keep you moving max sitting 1-2 days.

i also have a very nice, hardly used, except on sundays, bridge in NYC for sale cheap if you interested.

Most expedites are exclusive use trucks, not a recommended practice to double book expedites

I would second that. I stopped in their office in NYC when I was there last year to collect on an outstanding invoice in person. They cut me a check right there on the spot and told me a story about their system being messed up or something. While I was there I was hearing them calling carriers for help covering loads for a "customer" and these were loads I was seeing on NLM on my laptop right before I walked in there.

Not surprising you got paid when you showed up in person. In New York, when someone appears in person to collect a debt, it doesn't usually end well for the debtor unless they come up with the cash...

Way back when I was owed $8500. dollars from Midwestern Transport. I was in LA on business and went by and about an hour later had a check. Should have cashed it right then because when I got back home they cancelled the check. He went to jail for something else so I guess he got his in the long run.

What kind of "vans" are we talking about on a truckload board?

This was a super-B, a unicell. When the loads that fit the location criteria for weight & deadhead came up, he would click on them to see more details and could see the dimensions to verify that he could haul it. Some he could, some he couldn't. He showed me the total all-in rate, how much of it was surcharge, and did the math right in front of me.

I've heard of some having problems getting paid over there, but if he's having trouble, he didn't mention it.

As far as not getting paid, my sister, who's director of finance or treasury or some such thing for a major company and who knows about this stuff, says it takes only 3 vendor claims to force a company into bankruptcy. That would go for that LRT outfit, too, I suppose.

Just not good when you have collection agencies involved when trying to get another carrier to pay. That is the first signs of a sinking ship.

We only use them when ALL else fails and when commitments are not met repeatedly.

We pulled a load for them last month, John, but we made them comcheck us the money 10 minutes before we made the delivery. Amazingly enough they understood the credit situation and they agreed to pay us by comcheck. It all worked out, but only because we got cash on demand. Good luck with collections - you might just need to threaten to file on their bond and that will usually do the trick when dealing with slow to pay brokers!

whom ever this was you talked to must have had his own ins. maybe even authority. and probably brokers freight from them. they dont give contractors access to the freight boards unless he is someone special and they dont have their own freight board. if he was seeing nlm and other freight he more than likely has his own authority. also, last i knew, contractors were paid by the mile and only the ones that run for multiple carriers get paid percentage. the way they pay could have changed though, that is the way it was initially
