I had an excellent experience with Cummins Mid-States Power Inc. at 450 W Northtown Rd in Normal, IL 61761. Their phone is 309-452-4454. They are a master dealer for my ProHeat unit and that is what I had serviced there. I can say the shop was clean and well organized. All of the staff I had contact with were polite and professional. They kept me informed and although my situation presented them an opportunity to take advantage of me they did not. They even finished about 15% below the preliminary estimate. I will definitely be returning to them in the future for service and am now more inclined to go Cummins for my next truck engine.

I had an experience at the Cummins location in Indianapolis. Only, it was quite different. Took my truck in for some work including problems of the engine pulsing at road speed, and hard starting, missing and smoking bad upon cold startup. Also asked them to service it. Went on vacation and left the truck there a week. Paid them $1900 and change went out to the lot started the truck - no change missing, smoking. Went back inside to get someone to watch the start up. He says, seems to me you need a pump. Lets get it back inside and check it. Still pulsing too. Yep sure enough, needs a pump to the tune of $2900. Come to find out, the truck was not road tested. The cold start check amounted to the tech leaving my truck in his bay overnight and, checked the cold start the next morning. So, a new pump goes on. Only problem, it's not a new pump it is a rebuilt (in mexico) pump for $2900. To add insult to injury the widget they put on my old pump to cure the pulsing obviously came on the new pump. Now I have two new widgets. Should get reimbursed for the first one. Nope. The other widget put on the truck to fix the hard start wasn't needed either. Should get reimbursed. Nope. So, when the pump replacement was complete and I couldn't get together with them on the amount due, I told them to bill me and we'd work it out. I left with my truck under some very heavy protest and took it home. Next day I see the ground below the truck is green( it was the day after St.Pattys day) Yep antifreeze. So popped the hood looked around and found the bolts attaching the cooling tube to the fuel pump(what was left of them) were finger tight. So, had to find bolts and some new o rings, six gallons of antifreeze, blah, blah blah. Am I pleased with their work? Nope!!!!!

Cummins of Indy..........what a disappointing story.
Usually when 1 hits this, there is another 100 behind you that experienced the same thing.
Thanks for the experience.....I think?
Hope you finally got it fixed

Oh yes, I'm sure that there have been many before me. This time however, they don't have the barganing chip. Most of these repair shops have forgotten that consumers have rights, or, some of their personnel never really realized we have rights because of their ability to control the equipment keys and keep the machine behind a cyclone fence until settlement has been agreed upon. It would be stupid to dance with these folks for an extendned time about $3000 in overcharges when the truck could have made $15,000 during that period. So, for the most part they effectively eliminate those rights. This instance will be a refresher/education in customer rights. The first bill which was paid $1900+ was for a truck service and some repairs that didn't work. The second bill $2900+ was for a new fuel pump (Ithought)that ended up being a rebuilt (in Mexico)pump. Concerning the first issue, all I really recieved from that go around was a truck service - for $1900+ and, I won't be paying $1900 for a truck service in this lifetime. Period. I have already explained to them that when MY customer has an airplane on the tarmac waiting for freight, they don't pay me to TRY to get that freight to the airplane. On the second issue $2900 for a rebuilt fuel pump, was not paid on the spot. I can purchase a rebuilt pump for $1200 from an outfit in northern Indiana, if I had wanted a rebuilt pump. This pump works just fine (after we tightened all the bolts, etc) and i'm waiting for them to splain to me why their rebuilt pump is worth $1700 more than the other one. My advice to them is-to just round file that last bill.

You are right. They probably can't explain the cost difference.

I had great service at a Mack/Cummins dealer in Seymour Indiana. Had oil leaking from my injector pump, they replaced a module and got me up and running in a short time. They where fair and did exactly what they said they would do. I would use them again if my truck is in the area.

As for bad service I would not recommend Steve Mobil Maint. near Kansas city. Had my box repaired there after it was hit while sitting at a truck stop. The repair was OK but they tried to stick it to me when I got the bill.

Happy Easter to all
