When it rains it pours. Last night I got a call from a life long friend in Austin Tx. In April he was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal liver cancer that has spread to other organs. Gave him 6 months.
As a side note, Chris's grandfather invented the carburetor for Henry Ford.
No sooner I get off the phone, my wife gets a call. My 86 year old mother in law in Phoenix is not doing well.
Then, I get another call. My 12 year old niece in Austin has to have her tonsils out on the 28th.
So I fly to Austin on the 27th with a tentative return on the 3rd of July or possibly on to Phoenix.
My wife leaves for Phoenix on the 27th. Return date not set yet.
Had boat stuff scheduled to finish up repairs for the move later this year so I could go back in service after the the 4th. So everything up in the air at the moment.
Be safe.

jojomica had a tough time as well going thru...got inspected!...I got ID'd nearly every time thru when i was down there....seems they might be tightening up some...
Next exit down Saginaw Rd...nice friendly Walmart...and free wifi from Staples and Lowes....

Mine started last week in el paso. I think they been tracking me at the check points. They ask me odd questions like do I know what a us citizen is and I have to tell them like a 5 year old. Then down the road leaving Laredo last week they went through the normal questions and told me to hold on and was talking to someone on the radio then asked me how many times I been in the area. Left Laredo last night at at checkpoint the guy just opens the back door without asking. But later that night when trying to find shipper in del Rio by the border was pulled over pulling into shipper driveway. Sat for maybe 3 minutes before he came to the window and told me he pulled me over for driving slow???. He then told me he never sees vans in the area and I was suspicious. Then they started reading on the radio the tag number and last check point I went through. Then asked if my doors was unlocked and told him no then wanted to search. I knew I didn't have to let him and if I wasn't in a hurry I wouldn't let him. But he did just went all over the van. Then asked for my license and ran that and by that time a couple other agents stopped. He came to the window handed my license and told me thank you and I left. Leaving del rio they followed me out of town lol got on the highway they turned off. But little bit later a car passed me I looked in the mirror and one was following me with no lights on!! Few minutes later hit the checkpoint and they asked what I was alone and I answered and they let me go.
They are cracking down on vans I'm guessing. They might of stopped a van with illegals or drugs recent so they hassle the rest who knows.

They are. They had a big drug bust in a expedite clone van recently. Done up like a popular expedite company but did not belong to them. Company is question denies any knowledge of the event

Good Morning from the Knoxville TN "J"...Dang Chris..thats just over the top!! .. The heat is pickup up here and i will need to fire up the generator and AC pretty quick...been holding off figuring id here from dispatch with a nice run back to the north....LOL, all i got was a message about 4 round trips to hopkinsville for sat...and it wasn't even for the Expedite divison....oh well, i didnt think they were going to dh me to get one anyhow...

The situation Chris was in warrants the question: what can we vanners do to prove our innocence in the event someone were to load us down with drugs? We wouldn't have a clue until the dog goes ballistic.
I know that in the straight truck and in a t/t, you could be sure the load was sealed and that would give you at least some protection. I know that most of our loads are auto related. Most of the places where Ive picked up on the border were places that I felt the risk of something like this was very low, but if you were picking up at something like an LTL terminal? I could see somebody shipping a pallet of "anything" on LTL with a couple boxes of dope in the mix.
So...what protects us?
