Is the Custom Critical Name Being Phased Out?

With some of the customers we deal with, sometimes appearances are almost as important as the freight. :(

True, but how often does it happen that any customer of any kind actually requests a driver or team whose personal appearance is professional? How often does it happen that a shipper offers to pay extra because the driver looks good and less because the driver looks like a slob?

Don't get me wrong. Diane and I believe in professional dress and we dress accordingly at every pick up and delivery. But I have never once seen or heard about and expedite shipper pay extra for it or order or refuse a truck on that basis.

Are you saying some of our better WG rates aren't because of these snazzy uniforms ?

I don't think a customer would pay extra for the dress or condition of the truck ( or drivers, lol ), but based on who or what shows up, they might become an "ex customer" fairly rapidly.

We delivered to a customer in NYC a few weeks back. The customer specifically mentioned that her last experience with FDCC was less than pleasant. Drivers were unpleasant to each other, (not to the customer mind you, but to each other.) This stuck in the customers head from six months prior, that they brought it up to me while I was bringing the freight in.

Some customers notice "the little things" that most of us never even consider.

We also are always professional in our dealings with our customers. We made sure the above customer was happy with OUR performance, and hopefully they will continue using FDCC.

Actually we have had load offers and customers request are "Professional Appearance". The Breakdown of the request was no facial hair,no ear/eye brow ring, no ripped or stained clothing. So yes phil customers do request a neat and clean driver.

I don't doubt what you are saying but I am curious. What kind of customer requests a clean-shaven driver with no face metal, and how often is such a request made?

In the last 8 months at panther it happened a dozen times. I have a neatly trimmed beard and I take my metal out if it arises. It has never cost me any loads but it does come up.

At chemical plants, where wearing a full face respirator is a possibility, it comes up. No facial hair is required for a tight seal. Had that happen three times in one week in Louisiana. I use an electric razor so quickly shaving in the truck is no problem. A bigger problem was having to wear long pants, long sleeve shirt, and steel toe boots in 100° August in the Louisiana swamps. Head metal and other jewelry was mentioned, but I don't have any so I didn't pay any attention to it.

I guess I was unware of such requests since I am already clean-shaven and face-metal free.

Does anybody think that branded and un-branded trucks will have equal footing on the favoritism field of play?

That's rhetorical. :D

I think all of the trucks will be equal when the FDCC wants us to take a run in to the middle of moose droppings Canada. For the good runs that everyone wants, then the playing field will be slanted towards the heavy logo's. We will just drift along until we hear the fat lady start warming up. Until then, it's tiny logo's for us. They are easy to cover up with blanks when we visit our gated community.
