No you may not! But I have not been there.

Based on my work the last few days, how about a "Wall Paper Removal Hall of Fame" Dang I hate wallpaper.

Better yet, how about a "SPRINTER SUCKS HALL OF FAME" ???

I'm quite sure that idea would bring a hell of a lot of attention due to how bad those so called "cargo vans" suck.

Seriously, if this issue does not interest you and you have nothing positive to add towards this noble idea, then why don't you just leave it alone and let the ones that are very interested in this venture enjoy their little project?

Sheeezz, sometimes I think I'm back in High School here on this board. Too many little snot-nosed brats are running rampant here. You guys don't have to sheeee-it on everything that doesn't interest you, do you? Some of you need to learn a lesson in life, it shows. I suggest those of you I am referring to watch a couple of movies from the 80's that have a little "common decency" life lesson theme to them. First one, The Breakfast Club, second one, Can't Buy Me Love. These 2 movies are comedys and are geared towards adolescent teens, but if you pay attention to the moral of the story in both movies, it may help quite a few of you here grow up.

Again, my opinions, and this time I know I have a grasp on reality here.

Oh..so no ones allowed to say anything negative on this idea of a Hall of Fame? or is that just your expert opinion again...seeing you are a Sprinter expert as well?

I as stated on page 1, I think it is.. a waste of time and nothing but a back patting "look at me" venture...

The year was 1971,Emory Air Freight purchased Roberts Cartage, but, in 1976 when it was failing to make a profit,Bill Blodgett, who was the treasurer for Emory Air freight, had a vision of supplying the right size vehicle for the specific load, and,in 1979 our name was changed to Roberts Express, and expediting was on it's way.
Now if your going to have a hall of fame, that 1st person in line needs to be Bill Blodgett, because without Mr Blodgett, non of us would be doing this now.
I came on board in 1984,there was Chris Healy,John Mirrato,Dave Hodge,Who use to wear two hats, recruiting and safety, and started the White Glove services.
Bobbi Bobbitt, who thru her career, did many different jobs, most people remember her for trying to keep the contractors form jumping ship.
I wish i could remember all that helped pave the way for Roberts to be so successful, but these are just a few that need to be in that hall of fame
Contractors, yes there probably should be some of them too.
To keep this place growing,we did amazing things.it was the usual not un usual to pick up loads 1000's of miles away, and deliver them on time to overnight locations.Sometimes these loads would pay the contractors more than they paid Roberts.
Just think,1000 mile dead head and a 100 mile run, scary, but most of us did just that to expand the business.
I'm not sure contractors today would do half the things we did in the beginning.
There are so many dispatchers that had such a hard time to cover these impossible runs, short runs into New York,Boston,Philadelphia,I know they still have trouble, but then our whole fleet was, half the size it is now,and we covered as many loads as we do now.
So Dave, when you start putting in that 1st group,I think the main people from Roberts have to come in 1st,this is why there is a business called expedite

What are we starting here, a expediters hall of fame or a Roberts express hall of fame? Expediting is nothing more than a service provided to shippers by trucking companies and it was probably happening for quite a while before Blodgett had his vision. While I think a expediters hall of fame is a good idea it seems that alot of people here can not get past this silly notion that these Roberts express characters invented all of this.

Everyone has a right to their opinions, of which I have excercised respect towards most peoples opinions here. This is not a case of "Negative Posting". This is a case of self-righteous a-holes making wisecracks at a project that another member of the board deems worthy of his time.

If this something that is important to Bruno and really interests him, why make a joke out of it? Hell, I'm not even an Expediter so I have no dog in this race, but it is an interesting idea that I kind of support. Problem I have with a bunch of you here is that you guys are a lot like that snot-nosed high school clique that teased and tormented others that weren't up to the level of "self-worth" they deemed themselves to be. It clearly shows............

The "Sprinter" topic is a whole other issue in itself and does not belong here.

Absolutely..Bruno can suggest anything he feels is a worthwhile idea. The wisecracks are part in parcel of said suggestion it happens in nearly every thread/topic...

I gave my opinion and reason why...if it appears a wisecrack to you or anyone else..so be it...but it is my opinion and stands...

When you put an idea out there, to field responses, one must filter out the nonsensical.

Fastrod makes a good point.

As far as I know there is no historian that has dedicated the time and research to document the origin and history of this specialized segment of the trucking industry.

In the absence of a defined origin and a historical timeline it would seem premature to start nominating people to be recognized.

In my humble opinion, the term Hall of Fame is a reach because no one has become famous doing this job, but I understand the intent.

My best suggestion would be for Bruno to use this website to provide an accurate history in order to provide some context and meaning to those who may be honored. This would make it clear why each person was nominated and what their role was.

Good luck!:D

Several reasons. One, I don't think it's a noble idea at all. I think it's silly to create a pseudo hall of fame for a subset of an industry that was created out of a customer demand, performed by independent contractors. Two, a legitimate expediters hall of fame would include a very small number of people, almost none of them being expediters, since so few expediters have made any significant contributions to the industry other than doing the jobs they were contracted to do. Expediting today can be traced directly back to pack mules and horse drawn carts and the Pony Express. An expediters hall of fame would be as limited as an overnight package delivery hall of fame. In addition, there are simply too many expediters who no one has ever heard of because they aren't on EO, i.e., poplar. If it's to be an expediting hall of fame, rather than an expediters hall of fame, it would be equally exclusive because it would only include people such as founders of small companies that became large companies due to sound business decisions, creators of hardware and software to advance the industry, and perhaps a few designers of ground-breaking expedite vehicle adaptations. A small group, indeed.

Sheeezz, sometimes I think I'm back in High School here on this board. Too many little snot-nosed brats are running rampant here. You guys don't have to sheeee-it on everything that doesn't interest you, do you?
The question asked is, "Is a[n] Expediters Hall of Fame over due?" Asking a question explicitly implies that opinions are being solicited in reply. I gave mine. There's no need to try and berate me for it.

Some of you need to learn a lesson in life, it shows.
Yup.

Again, my opinions, and this time I know I have a grasp on reality here.
You don't really think you have a monopoly on reality, do you?

Hell, I'm not even an Expediter so I have no dog in this race,...

Thanks for your honesty, it speaks volumes. In my best "Tailgunner Joe" impersonation voice I ask: Do you now, or have you ever owned a Sprinter? Have you ever consumed German beer or thought Hitler's mustache was way cool? Do you still feel trapped in Kindergarten? Wie ist das wetter?

OK Folks, first off, we're gonna rein this back a bit...

This idea of an Expediters Hall of Fame was suggested many years ago, not as an all inclusive, whole generation of expediters, Football hall of fame type scale. It was actually suggested by Geo, one of our original members.

It was to be a 'local' type thing, simply based on a lot of the expediters we knew in the 'old days'... when Roberts Express was indeed the first recognized 'major player' in the game. Back in the late '80's when I first heard of expedite, all I heard about were Roberts and Tri-State.

That being said... quit taking things so serious. So what if it's not a huge, world rocking, world changing concrete and steel "Hall of Fame" including every single person who EVER made a significant contribution to Expedite.

The idea was present as a way for expediters to recognize those WE HAVE KNOWN who made a difference. To lay out a general time line, and recognize some of those who came before us... Those like Lawrence, Jon Mozier, Terry O'Connell, Rich Moore, Joe Roman and many others, AND so their contributions wouldn't be forgotten.

As jaminjim says.. .quit trying so hard to be offended. This 'project' has been attempted many times... from Geo to Phil... if David can and is willing to layout a history and timeline to the best of his abilities, and try to recognize a few of those who came before.. LET HIM... and THANK YOU DAVID MAYFIELD!

Enough has been argued and tossed about. I'm locking this thread.

Dave, let me know when the site is ready, and we'll post a link back at the top.
