Although I think EO is a great site, and has many great people, I'm thinking that a true "Hall of Fame" for expediters would have many people that have never even heard of EO.

Bruno, you really don't need permission from anyone here. Just start up a web site and make it a cyber Hall of Fame. If it's something that excites people it'll grow from there.

Bruce Simpson would be one of the 1st people that would get into the Hall of Fame. He is a great man a took Roberts Express to the next level.

How do you suggest the Hall of Fame be done?
What are the requirements for picking who gets into the Hall?
Do they receive a diploma a plaque or...
Who pays for the award?
Is there just a forum for who has been inducted into the hall of fame and a little bio on them?
Do we vote on who receives this honor?
Who gets to vote?
Do you only get to vote after you have made so many posts?
Who nominates the members?

The idea is good and fun but how can it become a reality?

Those are some good things to ask TeamCaffee. I think there should be a panel of people from many different places that choose/votes on who goes in the hall.

OK lets this going my nomination for the first ones to get in the Expediters Hall of Fame is Terry and Renee.

I'd have to wonder how this'll go. What about Phil and Diane, Layout, ms Layout, Goodtude and team?? Should we nominate someone that actually caused bigger, better things in the biz, or someone that simply moved freight form place to place, and might win a popularity contest. Seems to be the beginning of something sophmoric to me.

I don't think it is such a good idea..too many swollen egos around here already...last thing we need is a special avatar and a look at me attitude...

If you like the poster just click on the little cloud on the lower left and give them a "reputation"

Seeee. I already missed a possible candidate. OVM and JuJu, whom seem to keep moving very well while soooo many just sit. As a result of tag teaming the environment they are in.

I may be off by all of this, and no offense Dave but it may be one of these things that is much much larger than EO and the people here and needs a lot of other's input to be really effective for the visitor to enjoy.

I think maybe the basics should only be considered unless it is an EO hall of fame. Maybe including the people who actually shape the market and did things to improve it should be considered, I don't know one who is here. Maybe even going so far as to include Irwin Jacobs and Andrew Viterbi because of OmniTRACS satellite or the guys over at IBM and Oracle who put together the technology that makes all of this really possible, maybe?

Well, I paid for a web page and I'm going to get this started. I feel it's long over due. I will try to get a group of people together for this.

tsk tsk gregory..........

Wasn't Lawrence an Expediter himself before he started up EO? I believe he was, may be wrong though.

Out of everyone on this board, past and present, I believe Lawrence has made a great contribution within the expediting industry with Expeditersonline.com. Hundreds of people, maybe thousands, have learned what they needed and wanted to learn about this industry right here on this one site alone. Many have made smart choices, and quite a few dumb choices, just from the information provided right here.

If Lawrence was the sole creator of EO, and correct me if I'm wrong, then I nominate Lawrence to be in the Expediters Hall of Fame.

Under what category? UUmmm..............

:D :D :D

I believe Terry & Rene were around to help with the beginnings of EO [is why I specified them - Lawrence goes without saying, IMO].
If the intention is to honor those who made it easier [or possible] for us to do what we do today, then I can't think of a whole lot of current members who qualify either - it's not a 'popularity contest'.
Lawrence can identify those who helped him get this site going, but the rest of us just benefit - we didn't do anything special [yet - who knows?]:)

Just a little update, I changed the 1st website to the History of Expediting and that link is The History Of Expediting - Home

The new better looking web page is www.Expeditershalloffame.com which will be online in the next 24 hours. Until I can get a group put together that can vote on people for the Expediters Hall of Fame, it will have a post that honors a team that had been in Expediting for many years.

I would like to thank the CEO of Load One for offering to donate money to the cost of starting up the Expediters Hall of Fame. As Mayfield Express grows my wife and I have plans to buy some land and build a building for our trucks. In this building we will set aside a place for the Expediters Hall of Fame if that is what the group of people choose. But that is a few years off. I have collected things over the years and plan to get more. Mayfield Express office is in Rittman, Ohio we already have some pictures on the walls for our drivers to see what it was like when I started back in 1995.

I hope everyone likes the two web pages.

The Web Page is now up and running. I'm still adding things so please bare with me.

expeditershalloffame.com is the link.

Excellent "re-start"!

Remember, you don't have to build this site in a day, in a week, in a month. Just keep plugging away and work on it here and there until you tweak it to perfection. An idea you had last night may not look as good as you thought it would once you place it on the website. So, trial & error-trial & error, is a good plan for this site.

It took my friend Jeff about a year to tweak his site out using this "Tip Top" website service, and he has not had any sort of problems with it all.

Now, go search other "Hall of Fame" type of websites to see how they are formatted to help keep building up creative ideas for your little "Project".

Hell, when this site becomes quite successful, you'll be able to nominate yourself to be added to the "Expediters Hall of Fame." Know what I mean. ;)

Well, that is nice of you to say that. I have been in Expediting for years but I really haven't done anything in Expediting to change the way we do business everyday. People like Bruce Simpon, Lawrence Mc Cord, Dan Schultz, Jim Bais, Harold Leader,Dave Corfman, Jack Packard, Terry and Rene and so many others that have help make the Expediting business what it is today. Those are the people I'm talking about. But I'm just one person, that why I say that there needs to be a group of people to choose who goes into The Expediters Hall of Fame.

Now Ken that would be doubtful,as the hall may well be very small for quite awhile until the idea catches on.

But maybe they would be in a traveling display, they could be placed in a sprinter and travel all around the country.

The year was 1971,Emory Air Freight purchased Roberts Cartage, but, in 1976 when it was failing to make a profit,Bill Blodgett, who was the treasurer for Emory Air freight, had a vision of supplying the right size vehicle for the specific load, and,in 1979 our name was changed to Roberts Express, and expediting was on it's way.
Now if your going to have a hall of fame, that 1st person in line needs to be Bill Blodgett, because without Mr Blodgett, non of us would be doing this now.
I came on board in 1984,there was Chris Healy,John Mirrato,Dave Hodge,Who use to wear two hats, recruiting and safety, and started the White Glove services.
Bobbi Bobbitt, who thru her career, did many different jobs, most people remember her for trying to keep the contractors form jumping ship.
I wish i could remember all that helped pave the way for Roberts to be so successful, but these are just a few that need to be in that hall of fame
Contractors, yes there probably should be some of them too.
To keep this place growing,we did amazing things.it was the usual not un usual to pick up loads 1000's of miles away, and deliver them on time to overnight locations.Sometimes these loads would pay the contractors more than they paid Roberts.
Just think,1000 mile dead head and a 100 mile run, scary, but most of us did just that to expand the business.
I'm not sure contractors today would do half the things we did in the beginning.
There are so many dispatchers that had such a hard time to cover these impossible runs, short runs into New York,Boston,Philadelphia,I know they still have trouble, but then our whole fleet was, half the size it is now,and we covered as many loads as we do now.
So Dave, when you start putting in that 1st group,I think the main people from Roberts have to come in 1st,this is why there is a business called expedite

Where's the Drywall Contractor Hall of Fame? Do we have one of those? What about the Pipe Fitter Contractor Hall of Fame?
