I'm not bashing you or anywhere near that, but with question about Load-1 I expect John to answer for them.
There idea is that safety of the driver and of the people around them is more important than the load is often missed when people read what others talk about with their adventure into the blizzards and with a lot of people desperate for money forsake safety for the money thinking that they are heroes getting that freight to the customer. The customer forgets as quickly as the carrier, there are no heroes and there are no reasons that anyone needs to risk a lot more than their van/truck to get something that can wait to their destination.
I threw out that question because there is an underlying idea that the carrier is in control of that vehicle, not the driver. Many don't even read the contract, let alone know that there should be a clause in it that simple says you are independent to make decisions of the control of the vehicle regardless what the carrier wants you to do.
I know of two companies who will tell you to run that load, both I worked for and both have their cheerleaders. They don't care what happens to you, that is a fact, they care that they don't look bad and need to be a step above the competition.
