Anyone that thinks they need to be a hero at the peril of their own safety needs their head examined and if any company mandates that a driver or O/O drive when they feel it is unsafe is just plain stupid and opening themselves up for lawsuits...
Really?
You serious?
How about those who drive 1500 miles with no real rest?
The point is that there are people who will read some of the things said here and think "I can stay up for 24 hours, so what's hard about driving for 24 hours?"
There was a discussion about this just a few months back about the hours driven in a van and what some say they can do.
Mandating it from the company stand point is another issue, with so many companies out there who don't give a crap, who can say what they say to a driver to convince them into driving in bad weather or when they are tired. I think it is the same issue with the carrier calling the owner to get a driver to take a load, that isn't supposed to happen but it seems to - some consider that forced dispatch.
Isn't it better to have an open and honest discussion without going to through the defensive rhetoric
my company doesn't do that to help others understand they are in control, not the company?
and no there was no need for John to answer it, those that contract for with him have his back just as he has ours...and if you really wanted an answer from John, you should have asked him , instead of asking a general question....
Why not have an answer from him?
I thought I did ask him.
OK Hey John, isn't Load-1 concern more about the driver than the load?
There that makes it official,
I didn't ask it to bash him or his company or for that matter TJ but rather have a
CEO's position on safety, driver's latitude on decisions to do with bad weather - WHICH can be important when others don't understand what is expected of them as drivers in some situations. (yes that is repeated)
It is clear to me that his comments are an asset to the forum because unlike others who speak for a carrier
as a contractor, he is an
official of a carrier and it matters what he says which will reinforce what you and TJ and others say.
