Increased Security in NYC, Police Inspecting Trucks

Some trucks are being inspected in New York City as the tenth anniversary of 911 approaches and police respond to "specific, credible but unconfirmed information." Story here

Expediters going in and out of NYC in the next couple of days should stay informed and be prepared for more than the usual delays NYC generally serves up.

Thanks for the heads up. Luckily we are home. Spending the 10th and 11th working at the Festival.

They are also checking vehicles more thoroughly at the checkpoints in Texas, there are much longer lines in the truck lanes.

I got a phone call from a friend a couple of hours ago saying that the southbound scale on I57 south of Monee is going nuts. Trucks backed out to the road, the back lot full of trucks with all the doors open. Seemed kind of weird that they would do it to the trucks leaving the Chicago area...

Hey You are the spy guy.....LOL

A cute comment, yes, but also true. In his service in the Army Security Agency, Layoutshooter gained insights into intelligence gathering that outsiders do not have. While the service was many years ago, some things do not change and I would not laugh off anything our friend has to say in that domain.

My brother was in military intelligence for 11 years in the Marines and currently is working in the same area for a private contractor, it seems the technology changes but the basics stay the same.

That was the FIRST lesson I learned. There are some things that NEVER change. The SECOND thing that I learned is that "problems" outlive the lives of several generations. I worked "problems" in the "80's" that started in the early part of that century. NOTHING of importance had changed in 70 years or so. Those SAME "problems" are with us today and NOTHING of importance has changed.

Not likely totally true. In fact, I would be more than willing to bet that, for that most part, it is an incorrect statement.

Last scale north on I95 leaving Florida we got pulled over and were given the 911 10th Anniversary inspection as well.
This coming 48 hours after having received a new sticker for passing the Level 1 inspection in Indiana.
Big brother is watching.

It is kinda funny. I can't stand the "Big Brother" idea as much or more than most. I also know, without a doubt, that IF these precautions were NOT taken and the attack took place, people would be up in arms that not enough was done to stop it. The "media" would blame "intelligence failures", just like on 9/12/01. Very few would point a finger at the "civilians in charge" that often prevent people from doing their jobs.

It is a sad fact. There ARE bad people. They LIKE to kill innocent people. It is HARD to stop them and even harder to catch them after the fact.

It must be nice to have it both ways.

I just finished talking with my brother about it and he said when they are telling us that there is a credible threat that's because there is and when they get more specific it means they have a more specific target in mind and likely know who they are or what the plan is. He said we really aren't much safer than before 9/11 but that the intelligence community is working on the funds and abilities they have, you can't be everywhere.

This is an article about intel, how it is gathered, and why we get alerted.

The ONLY enemy that I TRULY fear is our elected officials. The rest of our enemies I have fought or could fight today.

Probably a coincidence, but I spent 45 minutes in a mile long line of trucks waiting for security to clear them/me at the exit from Ford [Claycomo] this morning.
Even for NLM, that's unusual.....
