In the olden days...

I am assuming you are talking about the "Roberts" days. Way moe singles at the early going because HOS were much different. We ran basically converted Ford chassis with a 12 foot box and a 36" sleeper. But.....they paid many of the hotel bills.
When that disappeared we moved to KW areodyne sleepers.
Wow....a standup 72" er.
A BJ and the Bear specials with 24' boxes
Then when we started doing teams, we went to Dan Schultz , Freightliner of Knoxville and started buying FL70's with the 72" sleepers. They were pretty much the biggest available unless you went to Double Eagle. Now your lucky if you could even get a team to drive one. How spoiled we have become.

Thanks Dave... I wondered if the HOS made a difference. I know there are many teams that aren't same household, but I can't imagine splitting the income or home time like that.
We came from T/T with a 72in sleeper, and the first expediter truck we went into had a 96in sleeper. We thought HOLY COW you could have a party in there! I will admit, I've now become extremely spoiled by the even bigger sleeper we have now. :p Sure makes life on the road so much more comfortable, and I would imagine that that alone makes expediting appealing to husband/wife teams now.

I remember seeing the first team in 1993. I thought - that is odd, why don't they get two trucks and make twice the money? It was '93.

So true.
Most of the questions were "do you really sleep in that thing?"
Or......"do you make any money in something that small?"

That's still THE question at the fuel island....."you make any money with that little truck"?? LOL, if they only knew......:p

The perceptions of it all, eh? Makes it all kinda funny.

Knight, that was the corporate mentality. But, look how they caught up with you, in the grand scheme of things.

It is so amazing how much things have changed. Some of these companies now remind me of Auto-Quik:eek:

At that time, they were on the lower tier rate wise compared to the other stuff we were running. We did do a few runs in those days for them.
