ya some of the new boards are huge!!!! in vans our problems are were going to swap ya, 4 hours ago you moved your van in the parking lot to get some shade and you didnt get a full 5 hour break after moving the van so your time started on the 16 hour clock when ya moved..

A few things. One, if you need to move, then move. Live your life. If you lose your board position, so what? It's not like you'll never be offered another load again. If you miss a load, then you miss a load. There will be another one. Do you have any idea how many loads you miss out on because you're loaded? OMG, you'd have a heart attack if you knew. It's a crapshoot either way, so live you life. If you need to go to Wal Mart, or a restaurant, or the grocery store, or the movies, then go!

Second, if it's that big a deal, call dispatch and tell than that since you're first out, and since they can't tell you where the board boundaries are, that you want a manual First Out to ensure you don't lose your board position if you move a few miles and come back. If they won't do it, then either go avail-sleeping to keep the board position, or unplug your QC, move, come back, plug the QC back in.

That's actually an issue that I'm going to bring up to someone pretty soon. Straight trucks and tractors can move up to 30 minutes without starting their clock, but for a van it's one mile.

Wow that practice seems really harsh I am glad we have the freedom to move all over the place and not worry about losing our position in the lineup and also have the ability to refuse as many loads as we want and can still stay number one in board position.
We enjoy the ability while under a load or while waiting for a load to run to the store, the movie or go see an attraction and as long as you stay within the 50 miles of the service center and can make pickup on time you are good to go.
If you have been on the clock for 24 hours you can also take two hours personal time and not lose your position on the board also comes in very handy to take a leisurely shower and eat a meal.

If you're on exit 1 on 84, you're in Sturbridge. There are a couple restaurants (some kind of chicken and a Roy Rogers) on the other side of the freeway from where you're at. Suck it up and hang tight for the weekend if you're worried... the Pilot ain't so bad.

Sturbridge is a heckuva drive from Boston, so that leads me to believe the Boston area takes up half of MA. If so, don't worry about losing your spot. Do what Turtle said... disconnect QC and go!

Shockingly, they're wrong. You're on the Sudbury board, but you're not in the Sudbury Zip Code, that's for sure. Sudbury is 45 miles northeast of you.

Massachusetts has two boards, Sudbury and West Chesterfield. Actually, it's just Chesterfield, a little bitty nothing in western central Massachusetts. Because the boards have been designed by a lazy IT guru who wants it to be easier to track vehicles by Zip Code boundaries rather than the more logical and sensible (but harder to create and coordinate with the computer and the QC) freight boundaries, we have boards that bear no relationship to freight whatsoever. Because Massachusetts only has two boards, if you plot Sudbury and Chesterfield on a mp, you can see that if you slice the state right down the middle, there's yer two boards.

The slice takes place about 3 or 4 miles to the west of that Pilot, so don't wander off to the west at all and you won't change boards, or board position. But you can go north and east as far as the roads go and you'll still be on the Sudbury board. If the Red Sox were in town you could go to Fenway Park and still be on the Sudbury board.

So live it up, go crazy.

"lazy IT guru"

Well.... yes.... there are a lot of lazy IT people out there doing a lot of damage to things but they ain't guru's - there is no such thing in IT and anyone who says they are, who passes themselves off as one or who let's others say that they are knows less than a 5th grader. Vent of the day over with.
