Effective Friday Idleaire is closing its doors. According to the knoxville paper. While sitting here at the TA outside of San Antonio we walked the idleair office just has the lady was hanging the "closed" sign. she stated a buyer couldn't get monies needed to takeover.

Idleaire filled for bankruptcy in April 2009.

They would be filing for chapter 13 in April 2010 if they did take over...and really..do you want the Government to be more in our pockets than they already are?

People say its cheaper to idle your truck and burn fuel but what about the wear and tear on the engine while the truck sits and runs for hours and hours, so if you add cost of wear and tear on the engine and want it to last you would want to use Idleaire if you dont have a APU see the story at www.thetrucker.com

Not much of a shock. It seemed way to expensive to me. The money spent on that, when available, would be better spent on an APU that's with you all the time. My aircard and DirecTv, along with the Rigmaster, give me Idleaire everywhere I go.

Man this does suck a little.... We buy our own fuel and it was a little cheaper to use IdleAir then it was to Idle... may need to make some changes in who buys the fuel.... or get with a owner that has a APU and buys the fuel.... getting tired of waking up sweating in the summer it's hard to get any productive rest in..

Many drivers with IdleAire accounts have expressed concern about whether they will receive refunds from the company. One OOIDA member told Land Line he just renewed his subscription a week ago. At that time, he said no one warned him of a potential shutdown.
Instead, concerned drivers have been directed to the company’s Web site, where the following directions are posted. “If you are a professional driver needing a receipt for prior visits, please send an email to [email protected] by Thursday, February 4. You must include your IdleAire Member #, your name and the time frame for your visit(s). We will not be able to respond to your request after that date.”

We had just started using IdleAire again. It starts to become cost effective when fuel gets up around $3 per gallon. We try to consider the cost of the fuel to run the APU plus the cost of the up keep on it. Oil changes etc. Also wear and tear on it, considering how fast our APU goes through belts.

It was a very expensive idea, too much investment for little return. A good idea but not practical as a business. I wish I was smart enough (and rich enough) to come up with a better idea that could make money.
