Owners always say it is hard to find drivers. Specially for expediter. Well the problem with expediting you have a bunch owner that don't really treat the drivers like human beings. You out there 2 to 3 weeks out there now it is the fourth week and you cant get home. A lot of owner out there just don't care. The money is more important. We understand there bills, what about after 4 weeks out there. Well here one for you the company you lease to dont care either. Well I was on a truck for FedEx C.C. got a load near home 250 mil. To far to deadhead right? True, well what about the deadhead I did personal for you. We need people who will help us driver. Hard to find people that can teams. I know what I did. But do you know what you did. I hope driver be careful with some of those owner specially from Michigan.
An owner like you describe [doesn't treat drivers like human beings, thinks money is more important than anything else] won't be in business for too long, because it takes good drivers to succeed, and he/she won't get or keep them. There will be service failures and breakdowns that could have been avoided, leading to more service failures and the costs of load swaps, tow trucks, downtime for repairs, etc. It doesn't take many of those before the carrier loses trust in the owner's judgement, [if it's not their equipment], and loads don't get offered as much.
But the drivers have to do their part, because if the owner doesn't make money, what's the point? You're pretty clear on what the owners need to do, but are you on top of what a good driver should be doing, too? It's a two way street.
PS You're right about the carriers: they don't care, because they don't have a contract with you - they have a contract with the owner, and that's who they deal with. If getting home on a schedule is very important to you, then you need to be a driver who tries to make dispatch's job easier, and they will return the favor by trying to get you home when you need to be there. That doesn't mean they'll succeed every time, they can't make loads appear when & where we want them, but I believe they'll try harder for a driver who doesn't drive them crazy.
