How Does it Feel to Buy Fuel?

The only time I really think much about the cost of fuel is someone asks me what "it costs to fill that thing up?" My fuel surcharge is reasonable, or more importantly, my overall rate is reasonable. The bottom line is still whether or not we make good money. Right now, I'm doing better than I've ever done in this business. Like others have said, it's that average family that doesn't get a fuel surcharge to drive back and forth to work that's really taking a hit. The difference in the monthly gasoline bill, compared to 4 or 5 years ago, is a lot of money to find in the average working persons budget.

We are a Republic and not a true Democracy. It's amazing how often you can be watching the news or listening to some pontificating pundit and hear the U.S.A. wrongly be referred to as a Democracy.

History over and over again has shown that dynasties fail and superpowers will end...

How to stop this from happening here???

those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it. we are now in our downward spiral as we want cheap goods but not willing to work for less so we become a consumer nation instead of an industrial power.
in the left behind books and in revalations the united states is not mentioned as a power player. the power players are in the middle east and parts of the greco and roman empires.

After spending yet another day on the 696 dragway here in Detroit I say let them eat cake!! 75 in a 60?? I don't feel sorry for any car driver or commuter....not at them speeds. Let the price go higher even more and make um pay thru the nose....They should raise gas so high and help lower the diesel prices somewhat!!!

OVM, what are you talking about, 696 is 70 mph from I96 to I94. 60 mph is for trucks but they have only a few cops that patrol the thing, Royal Oak, Roseville, sometime Southfield and one state police car. I can get in the left lane doing 75 and have someone get p*ssed off at me because I am going too slow - it is that auto worker mentality, spend spend spend need to get there fast to sit and wait....

Oh if you didn't notice, we already pay high prices there. My wife is upset that she paid $3.65 this morning and said the place around the corner is $4.75 for diesel. Only state in the union that taxes the taxes that are on a gallon of fuel/gas and the gas too - thanks Jenny.

Took inventory this morning. Had about $1500 (worth) of fuel (gaz/diesel) sitting in tanks, waiting to be used. Amazing! Ain't it? Used to be able to buy a pretty decent vehicle for that.

Ha, yes! I keep telling myself I want to sell our second vehicle, which we rarely drive, and pick up a decent, $1000, safetied sh*tbox to just have in case of emergency or the rare times we need 2 cars.. but I guess those don't exist anymore and the $1000 sh*tbox is now probably going for $5000!

Ratwell, the forums are dominated by those few, because they are the ones who speak up.
:)

And as you have already figured out Ratwell, they will speak down to you also.Cherry herself has admitted that there is a "core group" (read the in crowd) and it is hell to pay if you cross them, because you will then be branded as a bad member and as such anything that you post will be considered as useless or disruptive.DD.

P.S. The "in crowd" will be along shortly to dispute this.

I just KNOW this is going to be a stupid question, (but oh well eh).. why do I remember a time many years ago when people were thrilled to have purchased a diesel fuelled car, becuz diesel prices were SO much lower than regular gas, and now diesel is higher than gas?????

Pjjjjj,
My wife has to drive 75 miles every day. The van gets about 19. I told her as soon as I can, I am going to buy a diesel VW or something like that. She said the fuel is a dollar more and it would cost more, so here is what I said.

the van get 19 and with fuel at $3.45 it cost us 18 cents per mile.

If the car gets 40 and fuel cost $4.45 it cost us 11 cent per mile.

So I asked her, should we just keep the van?

Yes, and I try to make sure that everyone around me knows to blame Al Gore's environmental policies that make it impossible for us to drill our own oil and build new refineries. It also bothers me that I must add a $30.00 per gallon additive to the $4.00 per gallon fuel for it to work properly in my truck because of those same policies!
On your next layover, see the movie Expelled!

The big oil companies made their biggest profits in 2007. What does that tell you? To answer your question, it is sickening. Our weakened dollar doesn't go far. Five years ago our dollar was worth $1.60 in Canada now it is worth below a dollar.

It takes more of our dollars to buy oil because its value is worth about the same as the toilet paper you wipe your butt on. The Federal Reserve has played with interest rates and have printed more paper money to try to stabilize this failing economy; however, this crippled the real estate market as well as created a profittable business for the oil companies. What a joke? When Nixon closed the GOLD window during his term our dollar has dwindled every since. It is time to back our money with something of value.
How about oil?!

What you take from the earth you must give back to the earth. If you do not do this you create an imbalance. This is what causes most natural disasters. Drilling in Alaska is not the answer.

The answer to the oil crisis is to create an alternative fuel source. This will ween us away from our dependence on foreign oil and will put an end to depleting our fossil fuels.

Other countries have adopted ethanol as an alternative. We can too. So it takes some years to get this off the ground. A plan of action must start somewhere. The big oil companies will not want this and will fight this all the way.

no they're actually investing in alternative fuels. They know that that's where their future is. They also get research and development dollars for it.
As for drilling in Alaska, the truth is that the earth produces oil a lot more quickly than is commonly believed. Oil breaks through the earths crust in a lot of places. There are natural oil gushes on the ocean floor every day all over the earth. We just can't get to all of them to utilize them. Tapping into underground and underwater oil supplies reduces the amount of oil that would be released by nature into the ocean and on the surface af the earth.
