Well, loaded a day early. Already in Orlando. Warm out and not carrying my generator so I got a $49.95 room. I overpaid. But it's a friendly place, in fact there was a nice young Hispanic girl by the staircase and she asked me if I was looking for a party? I said no but now that I think about it I didn't see many cars? Must have been a small party!!

How's everyone been doing? I have been in other employment since Sept 1. Van is just sitting here as I make payments. Ugh. Any advice for starting as a fleet owner?

If you couldn't survive as an owner operator, don't even think about putting someone else in your truck. This business requires 110% commitment and 111% flexibility. Anything less will fail. Cut your losses and move on, or risk letting good money follow bad. IMHO

Not always, some do a lot better from the sidelines than actually being in the game. Kinda the whole bigger picture perspective !!

Well, I don't have a history in the field, but, I do understand cash flow and with loads below $1.00 to $1.20 per mile, there is not enough left to feed two. Quite honestly, I see .80/.90¢ as the norm for a Sprinter in 2016. Again, IMHO

Not the perfect time to start it... yet, if you know a driver that you can trust, you can give it a try, nothing to lose except some extra miles on your truck...

If you have a good experienced driver in the van, you might not make a boatload of money, but you will get the payments made without having to pay them yourself. It is very tight to split money between a driver and an owner, but if you work for a company that can get you at lest 95 cents per mile and some 1 dollar per mile loads, you can make something. Where you're going to lose money is getting shady drivers who you have to pay to go to orientation with your carrier and then they flake out, or drivers who will dump your van in the middle of no where. You need to hire a driver who has money, experience, and will not just dump your van in the middle of nowhere.

If your driver runs 70 thousand loaded miles @ 95 cents per mile, that is 67 thousand dollars a year. If you are getting 40 percent of that, you will be earning 26,800 dollars per year. You have to deduct truck payment, insurance, maintenance, and repairs from that. There will be no taxes to pay after your standard mileage deduction. If you can pay the payment off of that and live with it, that would be the way to go. If you get a good driver in that van, you could actually pay it off inside of two years. I wish you luck with whatever you decide to do.
