Get off your donkey

My 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was built in Pontiac Michigan by UAW represented workers. Foreign content on it is 8 percent. 92 percent isn't 100, but it's enough for me. It scored higher in initial quality than the Toyota Tacoma, cost less, and the Tacoma's foreign content is 68 percent, mostly Mexican. The numbers don't lie. Had to do some research, but wanted to give Greg an answer to his question. Not to mention that the capital gains from the sale of my Silverado went into pockets of General Motors, an American corporation. As for the Tacoma, well come on now, we all know where Toyota calls home don't we? Guess Greg's donkey isn't doing it's homework, or maybe he is riding a Mexican jackass and just doesn't know it. :7

parts not 92% U.S. parts while the 2006 Tundra is 80% U.S. or Canadian parts. The advantage does go to the Silverado but not by a whole lot. Additionally,

• 81% of the parts value in General Motors Corp. vehicles sold last year came from the United States or Canada, down from 87% five years ago and 91% in 1995.

• For Ford Motor Co., 82% of parts value was U.S. or Canadian-sourced, down from 87% in 2000 and 86% in 1995.

• Chrysler had the lowest total for a Detroit automaker at 76%, down from 80% five years ago and 89% 10 years ago.

Among the top three Japanese automakers:

• Toyota drew 75% of its parts value from U.S. or Canadian sources for the vehicles it made and sold in the United States last year, up from 57% in 2000 and 49% in 1995.

• At Honda, 68% of its North American vehicles' parts value was U.S. or Canadian. That was down slightly from 70% in 2000 but up from 47% in 1995.

• Nissan had the lowest total among Japan's Big Three at 57%, compared with 58% in 2000 and 42% in 1995.

That information is from the Detroit Free Press newspaper so I presume it to be accurate.

Having said all that, I'll once again point out this thread is to encourage membership in OOIDA, Highway Watch and Truckerbuddy. Any further debate on unions, parts content in vehicles etc. should be made in a thread specific to that topic. Let's try to stay focused on adding members to these organizations that work for us or allow us to work for our own good by the image we present. Thanks.

Made in Detroit, Your something else. Thanks... Don't take things personal.

Leo Said; 'I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you. There are precious few left I believe. Getting back on track of the topic of the thread once again, I have upgraded my OOIDA membership to a life membership. My money is where my mouth is. Now get off your collective donkeys and get signed up!'

Ok Leo I did and will upgrade to life memeber when I can afford it. I expected you to do this, now if more will.

As for the rest, I am stirring the pot and glad to see the content listed.

Oh one last thing - Chrysler is NOT an American car company.

JOIN all of you who haven't!!!!!

Leo,
Correct me if I am wrong;

To become a life time member - you take your age and subtract it from 63 than multiply it by 25.

Oh yea you get a jacket.

I believe it's 65 minus age times $25 and yes you do get a jacket. You get to choose either a lighter weight satin jacket or a heavier weight hooded and lined jacket similar to a Carhartt.
